Tasting notes by Billy A from the TWE's team:Nose:
Coco Shreddies, fruit leather, brown sugar and brown toast. Lots of
cereal notes, with roasted grains and crushed barley the predominant
note. Some darker leathery notes sit behind that, with polished boots
and fresh turned earth.
Palate: Fresher than suggested by the nose, with
sweetness and spice - spiced fruit cake, black liquorice, demerara
syrup, caraway and rum soaked raisins. The grain from the nose is still
here, but less intense, with unsweetened flapjacks and oatcakes sitting
under the sweetness from the sherry casks.
Finish: Liquorice, raisins and old wood, with some tingling spice and lingering green leaves.
Comment: A much sweeter whisky than the nose
suggests, with some fresh and youthful notes balancing some of the older
wood imparted by the oloroso cask. Great fruit, spice and weight, with
darker flavours providing support for the lighter, more fragrant notes.
