    [July, 2016]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 75 Euro in March, 2015.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 90.  My notes state another great DE from Lagavulin.

    Powerful nose in peat, Lagavulin paw identifiable immediately. Very peppery and fresh. With later cereals (even bread) and leather. In the mouth, rich, peaty, fleshy and a little sweet too (thank you sherry). The finish is long, very salty, with a note of leather. I think sherry is way too quiet compared to 1994.
    Enthusiasm 3/5

    The good Distiller's Edition - bottled in annual batches - always very good malts, but they lose a bit of the typical Lagavulin character!
    • Nose
      light dry smoke, fruits (berries), sherry, sweetness, some smoke, oak;
    • Taste
      powerful warm start, a lot of sherry, very oily, light spiciness, hardly any smoke, coffee, tobacco, dry, complex;
    • Finish
      long finish; spicy pipe tobacco sounds like;

    Amazing stuff, really loved the layers to this, first maritime, then fruity, then meaty, then bitter chocolates and coffees.
    • Nose
      Mineral peat. Seaside rocks. Jasmine tea. Maraschino cherries. Dust (like that fine desert sandstorm stuff). Glazed brisket (possibly what glazed ham smells like, never tried it). Cooked plums. Goji berries. Bit of a waxy note. Unsmoked tobacco.
    • Taste
      Dust. Mineral peat. Salt. Big waves of them. Eventually slows down and some juicy dark fruits shine through. Some caramelized nuts. Irish cream. Bitter chocolate. Bit of licorice, those hard, bitter pastilles you get wherever the authentic stuff comes from.
    • Finish
      Medium-Long. Maraschino cherries, bitter espresso. glazed meat. More dark chocolate, possibly a good chocolate liqueur. A bit of that sticky figgy note in PX sherry.

    Perfect balance and chic selection of flavoring components. Consistently and organically. Maybe a little more degrees would not hurt.
    • Nose
      Smoked and dessert, juicy fruits, delicate smoke, dates and figs, prunes, notes of white wine, mineral and sea themes, citrus and sour red berries, green apples, compote, notes of new furniture and leather. I want to breathe this aroma like air.
    • Taste
      Knits, smoky, smoked, dessert, oak, peat, juicy, oily, apricot and prunes, dates, compote, citrus. Good balance of salt and sugar.
    • Finish
      Knits, dries, quite long, pepper, oak, citrus, dessert, buckwheat honey, slightly burnt apricot jam, oily fish on the grill in a sweet sauce.
