This 12-year-old Speysider appears to be the tamed version of the excellent Aberlour A'bunadh, even though it is a vatting of both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry matured whisky. Fresh, citrusy and a little bit shy at first nosing, the aroma unfolds with tropical fruits, cloves and hints of marzipan. Despite its low ABV, the taste is surprisingly strong and fruity-spicy with lots of blueberries, plums and ginger. The finish is of medium length with notes of milk chocolate, baked apple and wood tannins. An easily accessible and quite affordable Single Malt with character.

    Aberlour 12 yo | 40% | 21 + 21 + 20 + 21 = 83pts
N: Candied peaches, apricot jam, honey pastries, pies, sweet spices, caramel and apples.
T: Peaches, turns into apples and sweets, nuances of cream and fluffy chocolate chip cakes.
F: Repeats the taste, apple pie, various pastries and sweet spices, a slightly bitter barrel.
B: Decent explanatory molt for their money. I drank a bottle quickly and with pleasure.

Aberlour means "an outlet of a stream that flows." In Scotland, this is the place where the mountain stream Lour meets the River Spey. It is this extremely soft water that Aberlour owes its style to. A certain mysticism is added by the fact that the distillery was built near the well of Św. Drostana - an invaluable source of crystal clear water. The history of this well goes back a thousand years, when it was a sacred place for Druids worshiping the spirits of water and oak. In later times, with this water well, Saint Drostan baptized the first Christians in these lands. Aberlour is ripened in two types of barrels: bourbon and Oloroso sherry. The Bourbon cask gives whisky a sweet, vanilla flavor, while Oloroso has spicy and fruity notes. The basic assumption of the distillery is that the apple and blackcurrant dominate in their whisky, while the taste of the grain should be neutralized.

  9. MY MALTS scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    Honestly, I'm a little disappointed ...
So far, every 10 years of Aberlour has tasted better ...
Something stinky is spreading in the nose ...
The smell of valerian comes on ...

    Colour: dark amber.
Nose: sweet, croissant with butter, apple sourness, sweet fruits, berries, dried fruits, current leaves, nuts and caramel.
Mouth: apples, pepper, oak, dried fruits, grass, citrus and nuts.
Finish: middle with pepper, vanilla, apples, grass and varnish.
Aberlour 12YO is a good balanced whisky. It’s smooth and simple. I gave 82 points. I like more sherry cask version, than double cask
