This relatively young whisky was a real nice surprise. It is different. It is tasteful. Naturally presented. And for a friendly price. One word springs in mind: buy!
    • Nose
      86 86
Nice aromatic wood. Vanilla. Sweet perfume. Fresh citrus fruit. Savoury fresh herbs.
With water the nose is sweeter, softer, more balanced.
    • Taste
      85 85
Hot alcohol arrival. Bitter development of fresh grapefruit. Dry. Dried savoury herbs.
With water the arrival is sweet and bitter. And short. The development takes over from a dry bitter into juicy fresh citrus fruits of all sorts.
    • Finish
      84 84
A citrussy finish with dry savoury herbs in the end.

    Quick hit review.

Glencadam might not be on everyone's radar, so I was curious to taste this malt. Fresh citrus, honeydew melon and hints of glue reach my nose, followed by thyme, vanilla and pineapple. Quite sweet and vivid, the palate unfolds with honey, lemon zest and mild spices. A touch of white wine, ginger and the ever-present citrus remain in the aftertaste. Not the most complex dram, but well-made and enjoyable!

    Color: Straw gold.
    ABV: 46%.

Nose: Spirituous, bright. Freshly cut grass, sour dried fruits, a piece of wood, an oak barrel, a lemon with sugar. [n20]

Taste: Bright, sweet. Pear, apple, lemon is gone (sorry). Pepper and spices. [t17]

Finish: long, simple. Sweetness, vanilla, cereals. Somewhere far is milk chocolate. [f18]

Balance: Not a bad drink, which seemed to me to be excessively aggressive. Maybe because of the heat, maybe because of what else. Very interestingly decorated with vanilla. It seems banal sugar, then manifests itself. A good sour lemon in a scent that, to disappointment, completely disappears in taste. Freshness I would like more, with such a flavor, which more or less draws this drink. A bottle would not take. [b19]

Quite a hyped bottle these days. Many online voices have praised this 10 year old so it obviously has to be tried out. It does tick all the boxes with regards to integrity, and as such its quality is apparent in and of its own merits. As a daily drinker this is a very good choice if you like the fresh and fruity profile of a young whisky. Its honest, almost naked in its appearance and as such much appreciated, but I must admit its not always the style I prefer. Some days I adore Glencadam 10 and others I almost resent it. Its a mood dependent whisky. Still very recommended though.
    • Nose
      86 86
Lycee fruit, glycerin, mango syrup, pomelo and lime, unripe pears, green apples. Fresh sage and a hint of tarragon. Very feisty and "spiny" in the nose. Young but composed and complex.
    • Taste
      84 84
Lime and lemon juice. Unripe passion fruit. Green crispy apples. Green hazel nuts. Blood grapefruit. Chardonnay. Tastes quite young, but still fairly balanced.
    • Finish
      84 84
Drying out on the bitterness of green herbs, berries and fruit peels. Tinges of citrus appear.

A nice surprise: it's a light but very lively fresh summer dram with a fruity finish.

  8. noeinwhisky scored this whisky 84 points Member Junior

This is really a good, clean and well defined 10 year old. The nose is tangy with a distinct vanilla note and an astringent suggestion of overripe peach. The taste is floral and sweet with some bourbon cask influence impinging on the tastebuds. The finish is medium long and spicy with a hint of sherry in the background. Overall, a well balanced expression well inside daily dram territory.

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

It’s a proper, decently fruity, light single malt that works on most occasions.
    • Nose
Light and spirit forward with fruits like mush banana, green grapes and a touch of mango, but also a fair amount of vanilla custard.
    • Taste
Sweet vanilla arrival and barley sugar with a spicy follow-up. Slightly peppery and a touch of chalk also. Finally a whiff of straw.
    • Finish
More of the same. Short to medium in length.

F: medium and pleasantly sweet with toffee and vanilla

  17. Littlemill73 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

A beautiful, light fruity nose (unripe peach, pear, lychee, melon), the taste falls behind a little. Not because it doesn't taste good, but because it's rather unspectacular. Which is not to say that for the price (just over 30 euros) it is not a very pleasing, well-rounded and definitely drinkable whisky.

3cl sample at a very nice tasting by the Good Spirits Company, with Iain Forteath-Angus, Glencadam's Global Brand Ambassador and Master Blender.

This one is 50% first-fill bourbon. Iain recommended food pairings including parmesan shavings and oysters. And as a palate cleanser between other whiskies.

Fun facts from the tasting: Glencadam uses Bairds Maltings in Arbroath; they've recently switched barley varietal from Concerto to Laureate; their fermentation is particularly aggressive ("like Krakatoa"); they're filling at 68.5% ABV due to limited warehousing space; the distillery was closed 2000-2003 before Angus Dundee bought it, meaning there's a 3-year production gap working its way through the range.

Green apple, cereal, creamy, grapes, citrus and miniral. The taste is fresh, vanilla, cereal, fruity, apple, pears and creamy. A good 10 year old spirit driven highland malt.

Glencadam 10, 46% non chill filtered no added colouring. Soft aroma of white mice sweets, oak, buttermilk, vanilla yoghurt. Watery and lightweight in the mouth. Taste is soft, easy, light supple spirit, some fruity esters, nicely restrained oak, indistinct soft apple notes. Clean tasty spirit. Nothing amazing but a good straight-forward whisky 3.45/82

Flowers, fresh orchard fruits, grass, confected fruits, bubblegum, creamy vanilla, lemon custard. Hint of furniture varnish and fresh paint. Water does it a lot of favours, tempering the confected nature and bringing out more of the fresh fruits. The bottle gets better and better as the fill level drops. Superb whisky, very underrated.

The whisky does what it says on the tin! For a really very fair price you get an honest standard whisky from the Highlands with aromas of sweet vanilla, light fruit, citrus and spice but without a lot of frills. The 46% suit him well and skillfully push the flavors, which appear very balanced. Glencadam should therefore be seen or tried out! For me an insider tip and only a question of time that the distillery will be given more respect in the scene.
    • Nose
Light fruits that have been poured with a warm vanilla sauce. The fruits are dominated by pears and tangy grapes. A subtle spiciness and a little grass are added and an aroma slowly spreads in the glass, which reminds me of a lemon sorbet.
    • Taste
Creamy and soft! The light fruits are present and are now supplemented with a light spice, sweet honey aromas, vanilla, some grain and refreshing citrus zest.
    • Finish
Soft and now getting a bit tart, because the oak spice increases. Here, too, I have the honey and the light-colored fruit, which linger, while the citrus aroma takes a back seat and is more like a grapefruit.

Sweeter and slightly less fruity than Deanston 12, not that complex though. Very nice dram. I would recommend it as a good choice among non-peated scotch whiskies from ex-bourbon barrels. Sadly for this one, Deanston 12 is for similar price and it is more interesting.

A bit pungent, Malt and wheat - a lot of crop. Not much fruit, the sweetness of syrup. Young, fresh, immature.

A bit weak, cold smoke again, maybe ashes and burnt nuts. Dry finally

  46. Totoro scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Nose: passion fruit, mandarin, banana, peach. But something like that. Bourbon barrel flavors that are already in the direction of Irish whisky with Madeira ripening (Teeling, Bushmills).

Taste: Exact as the nose, then pans nicely on corn (!), Vanilla and coffee and cocoa notes. Strong. For ten years and Bourbon barrels an insane oak flavor with perfect balance.

Finish: Wonderful, delicate cocoa flavors rise up the throat. A beautiful, finely tuned, if not too long experience. But crazy on point. Chapeau.

A little too flowery / fruity for my taste (the Arran 10 is more like my collar size), but the finish is almost enough to justify the purchase alone.

Plasantly easy drinking whisky. I can find myself in the tasting notes of St Pauli, but with the addition that I detected a distinkt peat note in the nose, but no smoke and totally in place, not overwhelming. It was a bit unexpected but not bad, but in it't 15yr older brother I didn't detect it at all...

It's a little rough in comparisson with the 15yr old, which is a bit the same but much more refined and a touch more subtle spices. I would prefer the 15yo if you have the budged, but this one is not bad at all for the monney!

    Simple, simple, delicious.
    • Nose
Very little at the beginning, only a little bit of malt is visible. After a while, strong aromas of ripe pears appear, along with creamy caramel and baked apples. Is still brightly fruity, but less specific, creamy caramel, some cake dough.
    • Taste
Relatively strong, thick with lots of honey and some oak at the back.
    • Finish
Warming it sounds medium long, the sweetness makes room for gentle bitterness.

    less complex glenmorangie
original in flavor, but oilier and better delivery, lacks complexity though
    • Nose
      vanilla, pear, musk, honey, slight
      bourbon, sulfur (not offensive)
    • Taste
      light
fruit syrup, buttered banana, light cheese, hints of orange
    • Finish
      short,
waxy butter, orange, peel, slightly bitter alcohol, nuts at the back

    • Nose
      Vanilla, wood, nuts

Sophisticated smell, warming up with the glass in hand makes it even more intense.

I like it. It is a bit youngish, but definitely has character.
    • Nose
freshly varnished fingernails serving a scope of vanilla ice-cream surrounded by some apple puree including the peel in a wood bowl topped with some wine gums in lemon, pineapple, banana, a few cereals and thyme
    • Taste
all the same as in the nose. Dry and sweet in the same time. not a big development, just the wood spices add to the fruity and grainy beginning. pleasant.
    • Finish
medium length, some bitter fruit components and dry wooden notes

well done. goes to my top 10 of entry level OBs.
    • Nose
Green apples, pears, marzipan, lemon. with water: cheap supermarket vanilla ice cream with lots of honey, after some time overripe banana.
    • Taste
fresh green apples, honey, sweet cereals, an ultra creamy developement. reminds me of German Zwickl beer. after a year of breathing the honey takes over completely, and the creamy mouthfeel disappears. very sweet and at the same time quite smooth.
    • Finish
medium long. bitter grassy, banana skin.

A nice ex-bourbon barrel of whisky that pleases.
    • Nose
very fresh, sweeter towards yellow fruits, oak and something else ... vll. a few herbs
    • Taste
strong onset, sweet, but just as dry, then comes the sweetness a bit back, clear oak, some citrus, some coconut. The yellow fruits from the nose are only weakly present. A very pleasant mouthfeel and a not too short, but not too long finish

Tingling, fresh, light, hay, apple rings, citrus, honey sweetness in the mouth, cereals, sweet and effervescent, looks overloaded, artificially sweet, slightly watered down, the sweetness still dominates, marshmallows come through ... I do not know, certainly not bad, do not bother me ...

    A fresh young Speyside malt.
    • Nose
Sweet malt, oranges, lemon zest, some vanillin behind. Fresh and slightly spicy in the background.
    • Taste
First with orange, some honey with honey and caramel, followed by a brief peppery-spicy twist. Very lightly salty on the palate.
    • Finish
Short to medium length with some malt.

N: Oranges, gentle malt with salt and spices. Predominantly floral waxy honeyed oranges.
T: Tingles straight away, into an inviting honeyed malt. Fruit and salt then fight it out. Develops into a floury maltiness with a large salt bitterness. Water adds more dried fruits in an attempt to subdue the salt
F: Fades to an anticipated malty grainy finish but the salt is a little over-bearing.
C: Nose wins. This is a bit confused and struggling with itself at the moment but theres everything to look forward to five years down the line, namely the 15yo. Scores for the 10yo seem to have slipped in the last few years. J Murray gave this 95 [2011 edition] and Whisky Monitor scores it high to low from 2008-2012.

    Scores a C

Very nice and easy to drink entry level whisky. It is up with the rest of them like Glenmorangie 10yo.

Recommended! Thanks again to NoFace83 for the Sample! ;)
    • Nose
Wonderful notes of citrus and lemon oil, malty and a bit harsh. With water: additional notes of mint
    • Taste
Astonishing sweet, citrus again, spices from the oak, intense vanilla, white grapes and some notes of pineapple. Memories of the Glenmorangie Cellar 13 ( I have finished the bottle recently!) With water: sweeter and much more balanced
    • Finish
Medium and pleasant. Some spices from the oak

  80. Noface83 scored this whisky 79 points Specialist

Great entry into the Glencadam range
    • Nose
fresh and grassy, lemon, a hint of vanilla, a little caramel, slightly malty, somehow reminiscent of biscuit with lemon icing
    • Taste
cheeky and spicy start, lemon drop, syrup sweet
    • Finish
in the finish then briefly again sweet - but what remains is oak bitterness and spiciness (certainly from the refill casks)
