    Yummy, well an interesting variant, I once had a lightly peated from the sherry barrel, which was sweet-biscuit, but this immature-fruity version has something, and the bladnoch hay is also there. And the beautiful green label, cows, the lovingly hand glued on age - I'm almost wistful ...

      undiluted rather closed, short note of new plastic, freshly mown grass, with water then fresh-fruity, apple, pear, green plum, a hint of mint, no sweetness

      intense, tart-sweet - green, unripe fruit with milk chocolate / nougat
    • Finish
      long, dry, green-bitter, coffee, pepper

    The Belted Galloway is a heritage beef breed of cattle originating from Galloway. Theres even a Belted Galloway society, founded in 1921, ‘to promote the breed, encourage its development and keep records’.
    N: Super initially but appearing somewhat ‘gimmicky’ later on. Now I know there are no gimmicks with Bladnoch, but it’s those perfumed fruits - they are vibrant as if to appear synthetic. Then again, there are no actual fruits in whisky are there. 
    T: Hits the mark straight off with bubblegum sherry. The [abv] strength helps it along as does the combination & proportion of sherry to bourbon casks also. Doesn't quite hold up to its initial brilliance on subsequent sips, but the bottle has been open for some while and the juice can easily become susceptible to the elements over time. 
    F: Competent [studio] fade.
    C: Yep, fun and tasty. I think the ‘Beltie’ along with ‘Sheep Dip’ and ‘Distillery’ labels are some of the best Bladnoch around. I believe this range was bottled and released during Raymond Armstrong’s ownership [1994-2009/10], but as he didn’t actually start producing whisky until after the millennium, much of it would have been old stock from the Arthur Bell~UD~Diageo days 1983-1993. Here’s hoping David Prior and Gavin Hewitt can get Bladnoch on its feet and truly running again. Let’s try a UD Bladnoch WB.

    Nose: Without water: Fresh fruit like peach, apple, pear, pineapple, mandarin and lemon, vanilla, cake, pudding, fresh grass, green tea, whiff of eucalyptus, some sweet spices like clove and nutmeg. With water: more sweet, vanilla, cake, cream, more light fruit and less spices.  

    Taste: Without water: quite feisty and sharp. Some fruit, sweet and spicy. Quite thin body. With water: much better now. More calm and smooth. Sweeter, more fruits, vanilla and less spicy. 
    Finish: Without water: More bitter and dry now. Fruits become more like marmalade or orange peel, stronger spices now, pepper. With water: More clean and fresh. Fruitier, smoother spices, less dry, mild peppery linger. 
    Note: Better balanced with some water. But adding too much and you'll lose some flavor and the spices surface more again. It's a nice fresh summer whisky, but with a spicy kick. It's a sniffing whisky for sure. Could sniff this all day ;-)

    Lovely nose, where a mixture of fruits (including apple, apricot and lemon) mingle with freshly cut grass, soft peat smoke and cream. A couple of drops of water and some gentle hand warming over 10-15 minutes helped greatly. Grassy and spicy, but also quite dry, on the palate, without the balanced sweetness from the fruits found on the nose. Medium-length, dry finish, with some faint fruits returning at the very end. Definitely needed time and water.
