I saw this bottle in the distillery in 2013 but it was not for sale. It took me 5 years of hunting to finally get my hands on it...
First nose: a good strong punch of alcohol, not sharp or young - instead very satisfying. Oranges, salty caramel, sherry, green apples, oak, hay.
Wow this starts very good on the nose!
I also got balsamico soaked oak, peppermint mixed up with caramel and oak, furniture polish and a hint of cherrys.
Tastewise: sweet, very sweet... but as u hold the whisky in your mouth the sweetness will disappear and a very strong dryness with alot of ginger, hazelnuts and peppery chilli will burn in your mouth.
Aftertaste: Amazingly long and very strong. It is just oak, ginger and cherrys.
On the nose this whisky is very very complex and it changes alot. What is really amazing, is the fact, that i got this salty caramel all the time. Tastewise and in the aftertaste the Whisky is not that complex, but the dominance of this ginger oak is just amazing.
This Whisky is a truely exceptional Aberfeldy.
I think in the Highland category - Whiskys under 18 years - this Whisky can compete for example with any Glendronach Single Cask.
U can`t do it better than this.
