Hey, that does not have to be
    • Nose
Vanilla with watery cherry cumin Moorwasser cut flowers and again and again cumin the nose is somehow extraordinary and interesting
    • Taste
the bite is missing in the mouth looks stale Cumin with water
    • Finish
Aftermath from the mouth slight alcohol taste Bitter, some yellow watery fruit

If he were not so skinny and bullish, he would fall into the category of "interesting" (and worthy of purchase) for me. So it is for the good price at least an interesting experience.
    • Nose
fresh-fruity, pear, green gooseberries, rhubarb, jelly banana, dusty dryness, slightly sour, some vanilla
    • Taste
First, a bit stuffy, stale canned fruit cocktail water, then comes the wood, old leather chair, licorice, glutamate, dust-dry (for a furry mouthfeel presumably the strength is not enough)
    • Finish
Not very much, bit of liquorice with plastic

The nose is still nice, in the mouth, however, it is much weaker with an unexpected strong alcoholic touch.
    • Nose
Fruity, light fruits, vanilla, even slightly dusty oak, white wine. An unspectacular, but nice nose.
    • Taste
Weak start, with the alcohol content no wonder. Somewhat dusty oak, a little vanilla, surprisingly alcoholic.
    • Finish
Short, alcoholic, some menthol, oak, slightly dry, a bit scanty.

Was good for educational purposes, lucky I only got a sample. Bottler really should have poured this straight down the drain.
    • Nose
A woodshop, sawdust, resin, glue, varnish all at once. Some pinapple and pina colada. Overripe bananas. Coconut icing. Muscat wine.
    • Taste
Very light. Muddy puddle water (yes I know what that tastes like, don't ask). More woodshop notes. Very offensive rotten fruit. Some salty leather.
    • Finish
Long. Gross mushy black bananas and rotting wood. Bit of cough syrup.

    Macallan 23 yo 1990 (34,9%, Whiskybroker 2013, hogshead, 20cl.)

Nose: very odd. It shows a nicely sweet (but also slightly youngish, after 23 years?) fruitiness of apricot, whitecurrant and pineapple. Honey glazing and some vanilla. It quickly gets overpowered by bags of sawdust and hints of pine tree air refresher. A carpenter’s workshop really. Some eucalyptus, up to the point where the oak gives you a slightly soapy smell, if you know what I mean. Mouth: watered down whisky with a generous dash of pine sap. Completely overtaken by oak flavours. Totally flat, with some of the harshness of grain whisky. Ginger maybe, nutmeg, and some sweetness of soaked white bread. Takes water well (just kidding). Finish: very short, and the wood is all that comes out.

Have you ever left a bit of whisky in a glass and tried to drink it the morning after? That’s more or less what this is. Apart from the fact that it’s not whisky, it’s obviously from a defective cask that let essential flavours disappear and let excessive amounts of wood juices get into the spirit.

Very weak (in different ways) and a self-respecting bottler should have poured it away. Still available from Whiskybroker. Around £ 18.

    Score: 18/100

"educational" is probably the most pleasant thing I can say about it - and this is the reason why you might want to get a bottle of this to see how spirit from "bad" casks can taste. Old stuffed cupboard with sour wine gums.

Glad I only had this one sample. This dram easily took the top spot in my list of worst whiskies tasted.
    • Nose
Sawdust, pineapple, orange, honey, artificial pine tree candle
    • Taste
      strange citrusy mouthfeel, more pine
    • Finish
      None existent, bitter orange

  8. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

N: dusty with nice bourbon fruits - blue berries and yellow fruits - peaches, chocolate, spices - nutmeg and caramel like a +30 yr. old Speyside whisky
T: malty, flat, citrus and some nutmeg like a Lowlander (Glenkinchie)
F: bitter, medium drying with coffee, caramel, orange, tannins and later some creamy cheese
    needs no water, sorry...

  9. Sonett scored this whisky 61 points Connoisseur

Weak and pale, not at all like an ordinary Macallan. 34,9% is not a Whisky as scottish legal requirement is 40%. To be honest, this one should not have been bottled
    • Nose
A pale nose, slightly sweet vanilla and honey with a background of immaturity
    • Taste
Enter sweet with a flat vanilla taste but changes rapidly to a bitter tone
    • Finish
Sort to medium long with bittersweet vanilla and soft spices
