    Spring 2015:
At the beginning, after opening the bottle, it seems somewhat rough, not very drinkable. After a couple of months, it softens considerably. The potential in whisky is obvious. But right now young and simple.
    • Nose
A brutally Aylvian set of ingredients, without tenderness, coal, soot, burnt plastic, sunflower seeds, buttermilk cake, burnt from a fire, saturated, burnt brown bread, smoked, malt.
    • Taste
Fresh, burnt paper, young, sweet raisins.
    • Finish
Warms, noticeably dries, long-lasting, oak, raisins, burnt theme.

  4. sarthur71 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

    Young, bitter, too expensive.
    • Nose
      83 83
bitterness of saw cut, vanilla, sweetness, then slowly unfolds into faint smoke, peat and a little fruit
    • Taste
      80 80
rather unpleasant bitterness with a medical tint, peppery pungency, almost not peaty
    • Finish
      82 82
shorter than average, warm, enveloping, smokier, but still too pungent

    20 + 21 + 22 + 22 = 85 all too flat, picking up neither degree nor body

      Dry Iodine
    • Taste
      Thin, Young

  8. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Already pretty impressive, what the distillery can produce after such a comparatively short time on high-quality whisky ...
    • Nose
      87 87
Cold smoke with dried lemon slices. Tar paper, machine oil, seaweed. Salty spray from the sea. A hint of pepper, but at the same time also honey and vanilla. Class nose.
    • Taste
      85 85
Smoked ham, hearty smoke, slices of lemon, smoked fish, seaweed, warm tar. Everything you would expect from a classic Islay malt.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long, smoky, peppery, orange marmalade and lemon water.

I like it a lot better, although the 2006 was much more balanced. The 2007 is somehow weird, funny stuff someone would probably say now. So I have to compare the two against each other again. The first sip of 2007 had something of corners and edges with me, which was really good, but I found the 2006 really soft. Unfortunately I can not really reproduce that now. That means, I need a first sip again. If that is the case again, the 86 points stand, otherwise it may still be down.

Notes from an online chat tasting.
    • Nose
Little smoke, a lot of caramel, some salt, no phenols, some red fruits, some orange peel, malty, very different anyway. Now comes the smoke in the nose, heat helps.
    • Taste
Mouth, sweeter, but at the same time something interesting musty, boah, what's that? Much clove, no pepper. Taste does not fit the nose. Well, the second sip can not keep up with the first. Should you drink the chilled? Where are the spices? Where is the muff ??
Fact, cold, he is interesting again. It's a thing!
    • Finish
Carnation also in the finish; and caraway.

N: Noticeably weightier/thicker than other Kilchoman bottlings. Very much as classic nose with subtle peat wafting on a fresh sea breeze and ever the presence of a sweetly, sugared, fresh, herb salad.
T: Sweet rose wine marinated in herbs, warmed in the oven served with peated sausages. Delicious body, perfect density. Water only spoils the wine like delivery but doesn't affect the finish a jot.
F: Burned peat now lingers, very much burned wood, on your clothes the next day. The new spicy [hot] spirit lingers in the background whilst the smoke becomes nutty.  To finish, a floury note - nan bread!
C: Nose promises and the palate delivers, impressive sweet fine body on delivery and interest to finish. Theres no 'wow' factor here, simply a solid, decent offering.

    a lot of smoke
a nice sweetness and also some barrel
Again, not the most complex, but the flavors that are there are top
I like it a lot, especially the style of the smoke
    • Nose
      Smoke, lemon, sea air
      a certain freshness and caramel
Hints of cinnamon, raisins and chocolate
    • Taste
      strong smoky
      slightly astringent (sour lemon)
      but then also sweet immediately
lots of salt, subtle nuts and chocolate
    • Finish
      sweetish smoke

  17. ASWhisky scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

he is too "clean" for me and has little bite except menthol

    Ranking: 1.Abgang, 3.Mund and nose
    • Nose
Salted water with a little sherry, a bit of acrid smoke, menthol,
    • Taste
watery, some dark fruit, too much menthol smoke, chocolate, just light fruit sweetness
    • Finish
      long
a lot of chocolate on the palate, initially menthol, then beautiful cherry, sweeter pomegranate juice barrel flavors
in the finish he can convince

  18. megabreit scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

crisp paints with a surprising complexity for such a young age Ardbeg beware! Kilchoman is on your tail.
    • Nose
subtle touch of cold charcoal ash, ripe plums and a light herbal note behind
    • Taste
Peat smoke is immediately present and comes with force without displacing the fruitiness
    • Finish
Caramelised pepper plums fill the palate with long and glowing, becoming drier with a slightly sulfuric smoke

  19. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Nice and easy, but exciting!
    • Nose
Kilchoman literally jumps in the face, the smoke is rather reserved, smoked bacon, fruit in the foreground, apricot, malty, slightly chocolaty, a hint of cinnamon, also some flowery bze. herbaceous, slightly gentler compared to its predecessor
    • Taste
smoky, sweet, salt & pepper in the mouth, initially chocolate, creamy, then quite powerful, it tingles under the tongue
    • Finish
the smoke is getting drier, salty, cinnamon chocolate is coming back

  20. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

lighter but more elegant than the 2006er.
    • Nose
sweetish, peat, straw, a little citrus, in relation to the 2006er quite light, but more elegant.
    • Taste
a lot of ash, a little artificial sweetness in the background, pepper and more ashes.
    • Finish
Again quite dry, pepper, cumin, peat, ashes and a little citrus.

    official bottling note:
    Colour: rich, golden
Nose: soft cooked fruits, vanilla and caramel coming through with the additional ageing in bourbon casks
Palate: butterscotch, toffee, peat smoke and soft citrus fruits with a mouth-filling lingering sweetness
Finish: a long lingering finish with peat smoke and sweetness very evident

After pouring it makes itself directly noticeable, such a beautiful, peaty cloud. In the glass, it makes a slightly oily impression, thick drops that flow down there on the glass. A great stuff, too bad that he is all now.
    • Nose
Peat full, exactly what I expected from the pouring. Dominant, but not disturbing, maritime notes, fresh sea breeze, he gives me a visit to the harbor, gentle and not piercing, some leather, a little flowery, a little vanilla. The longer I sniff at it, the more peppery / spicy / sparkling it gets, but pleasant
    • Taste
soft, full-bodied, a palate flattering. I would have expected something more violent, also considering the young age. The peat dominates again and probably covers a lot.
    • Finish
again peat, soft and gentle, later some salt, again the port visit

  27. Hansi scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Very nice nose; Taste drops slightly; the Machir Bays are a bit more "easy going"
    • Nose
First, a lot of peat smoke: campfire on the beach, not medically, dominates all other flavors; then vanilla, nuts, honey and light wood notes, also some malty and floral tones, looks fresh, light and sweet
    • Taste
Here, too, smokey smokiness dominates, then a little vanilla, not very sweet, medium body, a bit metallic
    • Finish
Long, dry, smoky, finally slightly bitter

As always with Kilchoman, this filling is well-balanced, despite its relatively young age, and therefore comes without a metallic touch.
    • Nose
Smoke with vanilla notes and an association with hay.
    • Taste
subtle citrus notes, smoke and lingering sweetness.
    • Finish
      Long lasting, sweet and smoky.

A peat "classic" but dry. I like it even if something is missing to reach other islays.
    • Nose
      Peat, smoked, coal, earth
    • Taste
      Salty, austere, dry, smoke
    • Finish
      very long

  33. Titi94 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

TASTING NOTE (LMDW): Color: bright gold. Nose: firm, powerful. A first nose reveals a malty barley radiating smoothness, covered with a veil of smoke. Milky, it becomes gradually peaty while maintaining a very beautiful fruity and herbaceous finesse. Relied, he shows a lot of depth of field. Its floral amplitude (lily of the valley, lilac, rose) is a pure enchantment. Palate: dynamic, strong. His attack goes far into the palace. Its solid foundation is composed of peat, lime, vanilla, nuts and salt. It supports with shine spicy notes (pepper, clove, saffron), spearmint and rhubarb jam. Final: long, very smoke. It shows a chalky and tactile minerality. Milky (almond), it becomes more and more greedy (rum baba, vanilla pie). The retro-olfaction is floral (hyacinth) and fruity (raspberry, strawberry) and the empty glass is of rare smoke-peat elegance.
