GF Cask of Dreams, American Oak

The advertising should probably not lie, but as soon as the bottles were on the market, they were already gone. I was able to get the bottle for 159 euros, because the gift box was badly dented during transport, and they had no value for collectors. The gift box (for people who pay attention to something like that) is very nicely done. A round tin box, tip-top lacquered, with incorporated throne, on which you can present the bottle without the "can".

Well, the bottle is empty today and tasted good too. A very sweet whisky, both in the nose and on the palate. Crème Brulée and vanilla in the throat - the honey runs down the cheeks and neck when it is almost thick.
Despite its 48% very digestible NAS whisky (even without water) and well balanced - absolutely no burning sensation in the throat.

A really good Glenfiddich - but at what price ...

89 Points - Glenfiddich Cask of Dreams, 48.8%

A vatting of different ages of Glenfiddich (the
youngest being 14 years old) aged in American oak, then married in
virgin American oak casks on which folk from the States had written
their hopes and dreams - Awww! Deliciously fruity and clean, it is all pear
juice, creme brulee, fudge, cool mint, and dessert apple. With water,
there is dusty cinnamon, kiwi, and milk chocolate. The oak acts as a
smoothing base for this fruitiness. A lovely idea and a lovely whisky.

Not particularly thrilling, but decent. It oddly comes across younger than it is, with some green spice notes and heat on the palate and finish. It’s not particularly complex either. Still, it’s alright. Nice cereal and summery fruit notes.

Nose: Sweet and straightforward. Sweet summer peaches sliced into your morning bowl of cereal. St. Germain, kiwi, poached pears, banana bread, crème brulee, and peanut butter cookies.

Palate: Medium-thin texture, quite spicy. Buttery-sweet up front, with honey, baked apples, demerara sugar, and red table grapes. Mown grass, guava, bubblegum, and homemade marshmallows. Rich spicy oak on the development, with gingersnaps and cream soda. Banana candy.

Finish: Medium-short. Strong oak spice, black tea, honey, toffee, and hot fudge sauce. Banana, flower petals, and cardamom.

For $100, this is a decent whisky. Light, fruity, floral. Alas, as with most NAS whiskies with fun marketing gimmicks, that's where the money goes.

a bit of the virgin oak here, new wood polish?
