    Brillanter old School Bowmore Whisky!
    • Nose
      91 91
Mature sherry, complex in its sweetness, lots of sherry influence, chocolate, coffee, mocha, just a hint of smoke. Wonderfully integrated alcohol.
    • Taste
      92 92
A bit of spiciness, red pepper and the sweetness of sherry, orange, honey and sugar perfectly complements the dull tobacco and leather notes. A little rounder with very little water. All kinds of sweetness, orange, caramel, honey. Again complex, dark chocolate, raisins, figs, sweet with spice.
    • Finish
      92 92
Very long with sweetness, vanilla, caramel and toffee. Malt sweetness with very delicate bitterness, orange and an always accompanied seasoning. The mouth remains steamed for a very long time - endless aftertaste that makes one happy and blissful. Brilliant whisky!

To me this is the kind of whisky that owes high ratings to exclusivity and high price (maybe even it's color too). In a blind tasting I bet this whisky would bite the dust. Well, it's OK, to be honest but definitely not a 90+ in my book. It has lots of weird offnotes like burnt plastic, tar and rotten fruit. It's full of tannins which makes it a bit too dry. All in all it's quite dry, bitter, burnt and a bit subdued. It's OK, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion not worth the €500 ;)

Some extra points though for the great incense note on nose and taste. That's quite unique.

    an impressive look
The nose is a bit overwhelmed with sticky dried sherry
the mouth is huge and massive
    suitable for the color
the finish is pleasant and long
    Overall, the feeling remains:
Paxarette taste (whatever it really was) has killed some good here
    an old fashion whisky
    • Nose
Fresh oak with glue, paxarette and fine smoke
    • Taste
the whole load of chocolate and sticky dried sherry on the tongue
      beautiful subtle smoke
Citrus flavors & herbes de provence
and then comes malt and the fresh oak with a glue note
    • Finish
if you think he is gone
      he comes again
      Wood, some glue
Malt sweetness with very delicate bitterness
in the end, there is fresh wood
and I have to think of a bourbon

A good whisky not a brilliant one. After I tasted it I looked this whisky up on Whiskybase, and to my surprise it has an average score of 90+! Going by that rating, it seems like a no-brainer. That just goes to show that whether you like a whisky or not is nothing more than a matter of taste. Don't rely too much on ratings by other people.
    • Nose
Very sweet with only a tiny hint of smoke. A lot of sherry influence with chocolate and coffee notes. Very meaty and full.
    • Taste
A warm mouthfeel. Medicinal and smoky, more so than I would've expected from the nose. With water it surprisingly gets more creamy and a bit salty. Not as much sherry, just a little bit with a feint wood bitterness.
    • Finish
Short and spicy with a hint of smoke. Disappears quickly.

Stingingly sharp with a lot of salty spice. Tobacco, balsamic, bell pepper, leather and orange peel. There is also honey, butter, caramel, sweet liqueur (Grand Marnier) as well as almonds, nuts and oak.
Very salty and spicy starting, but also sweet and spicy at the same time. The spiciness is dominated by chili peppers, red peppers and cayenne pepper and the sweetness is carried by sherry, orange, caramel, honey and sugar. But the dull notes of tobacco and leather also fit perfectly. Subordinate runs vanilla and herbal tea with a dash of honey and delicious wooden notes that round off the taste. Class!
Long - with an optimal balance between sweet honey notes and the spicy-tart herb-wood combination. Ending with vanilla, white chocolate, orange and a seasoning that is always accompanied.
