Whisky Reviews for Glenfiddich Reserve Cask
25 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 79.39 points
I clearly smell vanilla and sherry. The well-known, tasty notes of dried fruit such as raisins and dates pass by. A spicy note of clove follows the longer the whisky stays in the glass.
I also taste sherry in the mouth. A vanilla tone follows and goes over to the spicy notes of cinnamon and anise. At the end I taste nuts and a light tone of driftwood.
Long. Here I also taste the sherry and cinnamon. After a while I also taste milk chocolate.
- On the nose, cupcakes with rum. Ripe apples and raisins are also present. With time, caramel and faint lime notes start to develop.
The palate is relatively forward for a 40% abv. Honey, vanilla, red berries, and milk chocolate are most obvious. Mild spiciness can be detected, most likely from the younger spirit in the vatting. But all in all, the palate is best described as 'inoffensive'.
The finish is short with oaky and E150 notes.
To be honest the sherry casks in this didn't really shine through and I find this style very different from what the core range of Glenfiddich offers. I also find the profile off-balanced and as a result, would not re-purchase this anytime soon.
- Not bad sherry malt.
Yellow apple, pear, mango, orange rind, mustiness of cellar.
Fruit drops, candied lemons, raisins.
Oak, ginger, dried apricots.
- A solid, young and neat malt; in the liter bottle with a good price-performance ratio!
soft, fruity, raisins, sherry, very subtle oak, restrained;
strong strong start, a lot of oak, spice; clearly more intense than the smell suggests, sherry aromas, but looks watered down;
very short bitter bitter finish; Oak sounds like;
Clear sherry influence
After some time very sweet, caramel, ripe banana dipped in brown sugar, ripe peach / apricot
Reasonably dry, red fruit with blueberries / blueberries as a leader, sherry and oak
Not too complex
Gentle spices and sweets
- Not a lot of body but at least slightly better than the Select Cask
Some apples, honey, plums too, red fruit, strawberry. Also some caramel
Sweet, honey, caramel. Slightly spicy, light pepper. Soft, somewhat flat but not really watery.
Very light peppers, sweet, honey, prunes. Mid-length.
Tea,spicy,Plums,Strawberry Ice,Milk Chocolate,
Short and Smooth
This is a good Everyday Dram.With it's lack of Oak Influence it shares some similarities with some more upscale Blended Whiskies.
For some Single Malt Enthusiasts, this might prove to be a bit too clean and sanitized.
