For a cheap duty free bottling in the liter bottle, all in all okay, but not a big discovery
    • Nose
At first very opaque. Slightly dark sweet and oak. Then sherry tones. Takes a very long time to open up for me. Becomes sweeter and fruity and also slowly lighter. Grapes. Cereals, vanilla, light honey.
    • Taste
Little alcohol. Mild mouthfeel. Oak on the palate. Chocolate on the tongue with a few fruits. Pleasantly cute. Vanilla. Floral. Some oak.
    • Finish
Medium length. Juicy, does not dry out quickly. Chocolate.

If you are looking for tasty and gentle whiskys that also differ somewhat from the Speyside mush, you will find them here. This creamy start and the berry notes of the red wine casks deliver that certain something to the tried and tested clean and pleasant fire, to set this malt without age statement apart from the everyday NAS whiskys.
    • Nose
Creamy strawberries, plenty of vanilla, fine and clean barley, a few apples and pears are in the background, caramel, toasted oak, a light spicy note of nutmeg resonates
    • Taste
Very creamy attack, sponge cake roulade with strawberry cream, the smell is confirmed, vanilla, apples and pears are naturally present, burnt hazelnuts, milk chocolate, the mild oak provides restrained spices
    • Finish
Just as medium length, clean barley, milk chocolate, nice malty, toasted oak, dried apple chips, hint of nutmeg again

An order of magnitude weaker than a 12-year old. This drink did not bring any joy. I will not buy anymore

    • Nose
Ethanol sweetness with a small "tang".
    • Taste
Gentle sweetness. Citric notes are present. And it stays gentle.
    • Finish
Smooth finish. And just before the next sip, I taste unripe melon. Good start of the evening.

Well, a flat whisky, a bit thin, could be a very cheap slip-on, if it were that its price would be a little higher than that.
The advanced drinker will not find a lot of challenge here. Smell the best by far.
    • Nose
Fruity especially, citrus / lemon dominates. also sweet, vanilla. Get a bit of a bourbon idea, corn too? And candy-like.
    • Taste
Soft, sweet, honey, vanilla, caramel. Somewhat orange now too. Still flat and somewhat thin.
    • Finish
Sweet, not very long, very light peppers, slightly bitter too. Somewhat grumpy now, and honey sweet.

    Taste:
    alcohol,raspberries,rough maltiness,orange,caramel,pear

    Finish:
    Short and soft

    O:
Way below the standard of the usual low price NAS Malts from Glenfiddich. This seemed clearly way too young for me.

Extremely easy drinkable, and more exciting than the 12YO.
    • Nose
      Inviting floral sweetness.

Honey, vanilla, leaning towards a very gentle bourbon style. A drop of lemon juice.

A very soft hint of cinnamon.

      Birch wood and fresh linnen.

Most women would be pleased with a bedroom smelling like this ;-)
    • Taste
Starts of very soft, very gentle, maybe a little thin.

      Loads of sweet caramel.

Nice nuttyness and an evolving spice.

      Maybe a slice of apple.
    • Finish
      Almost at medium lenght.

Sweet, drying, spicy, and maybe it's the red wine casks giving a very faint note of sweet sangria at the very end.

Who likes the Breinereicharckter Glenfiddich, is not disappointed here. The additional storage in wine barrels, slightly more dark fruits are noticeable. No question, the youth tastes you (less soft and round in Abgagng compared to the 12er standard) and oak looking rather in vain. So rather a fresher malt, which I would rather settle for enjoyment in the summer. Again, this malt could take a few turns more, because with his 40% Vol, he is relatively weak on the chest. Conclusion. No must have malt, but as mentioned at the beginning who would like to explore the "Deeper Cuts" of this distillery and who the malt in the glass is more important than the status he drinks this is an absolutely interesting option and price performance in the Travel Value of 1 liter fits anyway. A good companion to a pint Belavens Best or Caledonens Best ;-)

    Nose:-
Lots of honey with soothing floral, light animal fur notes linger.
Elegantly fragrant, leaning on heavier note of oat porridge. Sweet spice
of cinnamon add complexity. Lovely drops. Palate:- Very gentle and soft. Lime zest and green apple citrusy with a
tinge of wood and crushed black pepper spiciness. Approachable. Finish:- Frizzy on the throat, with return of warm vanilla essence to the palate. Medium-long length. Very
    delicious. Complex but reachable.

It smells more than hopeful, but then it starts to die on average below the average - I would expect a lot more spice ...
    • Nose
Interesting full aroma, dominated by black chocolate, peat, raisins, other dried fruits, floral tones, citrus
    • Taste
Fruit-wood flavor - light citruses, then mainly nuts, chocolate, thinner
    • Finish
In reverberation mainly woodiness, chocolate and, unfortunately, something unpleasantly artificial

    A bitter disappointment
    • Nose
Pineapple, vanilla, mango, citrus, something floral.
      In the background some strawberry,
    • Taste
Slightly sprightly, light vanilla, slight oak notes with the associated bitterness. I can not find much more than the bitterness.
    • Finish
Slightly bitter and spicy. Relatively short finish.

  23. Koalafant scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

Although so far for me the best of the house Glenfiddich, but not really my case (72/100)
    • Nose
Although mild and soft but not without assertiveness. Notes of vanilla, oak and mango characterize the picture. Subtle sherry tones are in the background.
    • Taste
Very balanced appearance with sweetish vanilla notes, slightly bitterness that makes one think of a blend, and subtle fruitiness.
    • Finish
      Medium long and slightly hot

    Barley Sugar

The Glenfiddich Cask Collection is a new range for the global traveler. Three expressions were released: Select Cask, Reserve Cask and Vintage Cask. Let me start with the Select Cask, which is a marriage of bourbon, sherry and red wine casks. The casks were selected by Brian Kinsman and brought together in their so-called solera vat.

The nose is light and fresh. Mostly vanilla, barley sugars and coconut. Some spiciness like cloves and white pepper. Candied oranges. But the red wine influence is absent on the nose – at least for me.

Good body, to be sure. Very peppery and somewhat dry. No surprises after the sweet nose. A tiny bit of red berries. Could that be from the red wine casks?

    The finish is fairly short.

This is clearly an entry level malt. A card players’ whisky pur sang.

Very sweet, nice soft sherry note, a lot of vanilla, light oak. In the taste not so sherrylastig, oak and spice come through, you can taste the rather young age, oh, but the smell is getting better, drinking very pleasantly. Not a long finish. A very nice "everyday whisky"

  28. Hemdl scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Neat malt, but I personally miss the added value to the already available on the market Glenfiddich 15 or Glenfiddich 18, both dwell in a similar price category and have more to offer.
    • Nose
It is dominated by citrus and floral notes, a hint of toffee in the background, very light vanilla. These are but immediately repressed by the really snappy lemon, too bad. Much more does not give the nose.
    • Taste
As expected, the Select Cask is very mild. The malt spreads gently and creamy in the mouth. In fact, the woody aromas are flavourful with a light fruitiness and sweetness. Green apples and pears appear short, but then go under in the spice of the oak wood aromas. From the hoped red wine flavors of the barrels, I find no trace, it dominate here in my eyes clearly the European oak barrels.
    • Finish
The finish is short, very short. Mild, sweet and slightly dry at the end. Again, some spice, but also quickly vanishes.
