  1. Allandale scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

The original had a pronounced oak and sherry character, and was rich in the spicy esters that arise during maturation.
    • Nose
Spice cupboard. Flapjack. Syrup. Rose-water. Custard.
    • Taste
Concentrated sweetness. Perfumy. Anis. Restrained fruitiness. Lemon. Canded orange  peel

Delicious sherry character. Great depth of flavour.
    • Finish
Toasty dryness. Sappy oak. Long aftertaste . A soothing and syrupy body.

  2. hs305 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

[November, 2002]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 178 Euro in April, 2002.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 87,5.  My notes state a delicate and nicely balanced dram that is otherwise unspectacular.  Whoever believes this tastes like a Macallan distilled in 1861 should do so - but I bet half of my a.. that the source bottle was a fake too (like the 1851).  Nevertheless a nice marketing gimmick...

  3. The Macallan scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A nice replica, one that heats up your cold bones. It has lovely matured impressions of old Macallans wich where used to create this replica of 1861.
    • Nose
Fresh, malty, fruity (white fruit), a whiff of smoke, nice sherry notes, dried fruit, chocolate and wood spices (reduced: ripe citrus, light spicyness, soft notes of apple, rich aromatic, overwelming).
    • Taste
Sweet peat smoke flavor, fatty/oily and fruit (reduced: cereal like and rich taste feel).
    • Finish
Medium with dried fruit, long, warming and soothing.

  4. Feusi scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Honey-sweet and lemony sharp, followed by a long toffee sweet aftertaste. An enjoyable experiment, affiliated with more in the upper price segment.
