Nose

Reluctant peppery, oaky, a little bit of banana and some other fruits

Taste

Pretty peppery, oaky, with some vanilla notes. Rather dry sherry. the subtle sweetness comes up later also with some fruity notes - primarily bananas again.

Finish

Long and oaky - a little bit of the typical bitterness is also there

Comments

Very good, but rather a bit dry

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Rich, complex and full with luxurious tropical fruits of peach, mango and banana, complimented with sultanas, sherry and gentle oak spice.

Palate: Sweet and soft with near perfect balance of fruit; mango, orange, figs and sweet sultanas, followed by a wave of sherry, toffee and ginger oak spice.

Finish: Warm, soft and gently spiced.

Comprising of three refill sherry casks aged 15, 30 and 32 years respectively.

N: Yes, yes! This is beautiful and elegant.

T: Dryish intro, some lemon, plenty of chocolate and honeyed malt. Feels like theres a loggerhead here but probably needs time to open up.

F: Sour chocolate with some lip smacking curiosities.

C: I didn’t have enough time with this lovely dram, but indications are its a cracker.

Scores a [provisional] B

Nose

It is a bit of a fruit bomb on the nose. Loads of mango, sultanas, yellow plums, upholstered with pipe tobacco, some almonds and something that reminds me of shoe polish. Candied orange peel. Hint of cold coffee in the back. Cigar box. Very round and creamy. Take your time for this one. It is well worth it.

Taste

Creamy on the palate. It immediately offers raisins and oranges, but also an explosion of spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon and a bit of pepper. Very nice. On the second sip, the mango and pipe tobacco return. Becomes slightly dry, without losing any of the fruitiness.

Finish

The finish is long and lingering. It becomes a bit drier still, but that does not bother in the least.

Comments

This is a grand Glenglassaugh, that slept on quality sherry casks. The sherry influence is unmistakable, but it is quite becoming for this whisky.
