Whisky Reviews for Old Pulteney 1982

  1. Abadon05 scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

You just notice the quality of the '80s when compared to newer bottlings. Already a clear difference, especially if you know the standard range of Old Pulteney. Beautifully varied and yet complex. I find the different aspects of nose, aroma and finish great, which harmonize well with each other. Quite a great dram. Unfortunately, such a quality now has its price and under € 200, a bottle is unlikely to get. But the quality is always right. I would give him 90 points. You can also give him some time. Especially the old barrel quality is still visible after the finish. Nice but unfortunately expensive.
    • Nose
Immediately a sweet honey smell comes in the nose. Add citrus and grapes. So clearly to recognize as Highlander. I also have a slight hint of salt or a sea breeze, but maybe my brain will play a trick on me here. So wonderfully sweet honey honey and then come the other impressions. Beautifully integrated. Also the 61% one does not notice. Maybe very easy with a deep nose.
    • Taste
The sweetness continues. Likewise the honey. And now you also notice the sherry. Dark fruits are spreading. Even a light bite is to be heard by the alcohol strength, which bothers but little. And the oak of the barrel is also very light and beautiful supportive to advantage. Likewise associations with marshmallows and candle wax.
    • Finish
Medium to long. And here the honey and the impressions of sherry are gone quite quickly, instead you notice the barrel. Clear difference to the nose and the aroma. A dryness spreads in the mouth. Likewise a light spice and yes also some salt.
