sherry "who is working", fir wood resin!
    • Nose
intense scents on dust-free sherry, cooked fruit concentrate, stewed and annealed, sweet caramel, chocolate, cinnamon spices, some nutmeg,
back of the wood and old leather salon
    • Taste
creamy sweetness that explodes in the mouth, it is strong and intense, peppery spices appear, the fruits are this time well cooked on the apple, the grapes, the mures,
the slightly varnished wood and the leather come back in the mouth to calm the first impression.
    • Finish
      Long, intense, charged

In my opinion casknr. 72323 and 105092 are the best of all Ultimate Longmorns.

I love all Longmorn Whiskys from The Ultimate. I myself have 1 to 3 bottles of each cask and there are 8 different barrels. The Cask Strength Longmorn and Tamdhu are so far one of my favorites!

It is quite aggressive and big, but also well-balanced (except for that dryness on the palate) and complex. Not for the faint of heart, but most sherry lovers will certainly appreciate this.
    • Nose
A sherry bomb in the truest sense. Big on the dark chocolate, but also cherry syrup, ripe banana peel, and prunes. There's some powdered coffee too, as well as a touch of menthol and some furniture polish. Finally a whiff of soy sauce. A monster...
    • Taste
Very dry, lots of tannins. But also aniseed, raisins, leather, cigar tobacco and milk chocolate. Big on the spices, with plenty of cloves and cinnamon. Subtle it isn't, but water isn't necessary per se. A few drops does make it slightly creamier though.
    • Finish
Drying, with cough syrup, spices and raisins.

A very good sherry. Not complicated and flavory.
    • Nose
Heavy sherry nose. Dried fruits, prunes, nuts, milk chocolate, spices. Whiffs of coffee, citrusy notes and pine resin.
    • Taste
Punchy. A bit alcoholic. Very fruity and spicy. Milk Chocolate again.
    • Finish
      Medium, spices, chocolate.

close to the barrel 72315, always a big sherry on chocolate and dried fruits, with a little more nuts and hazel here perhaps, and less well integrated alcohol.

  18. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A malt where I could sniff a little eternity ... very full, the flavors are close together, there is much to discover. I've definitely liked this whisky despite 57% Alc. Pure better
The strong sherry and the intensive barrel tolerate the high alcohol percentage.
    • Nose
a lot of sherry, oranges, plums (cooked), if you increase the distance nose-glass, I also find cherries and herbs. The herbs are also joined by something that I would describe as "sweet balsamic vinegar", of the (acetic) acidity of balsamic but is not felt.

      with water:
the fruits fade, the herbs and spices jostle in the foreground
    • Taste
Sherry, dark fruits, dried fruits (again plums), oranges, strong, sweet, distinct oak. The 57% alcohol goes perfectly with this whisky, super integrated; Although strong and intense, but no burning alcohol

      with water:
      strong, intense, sherry and oak

    Palate: 31
    Finish: 32
    • Nose
      Sherry, coffee, dark chocolate
    • Taste
slight sweetness on the tip of the tongue, then mocha, oak notes, dry sherry
    • Finish
      long, warming finish

    Longmorn (Speyside, Scotland)
Filling: 17 years, 1996 -2013 "The Ultimate" by vanWees, Barrel no: 72319, Sherry Butt, 57.2% alc.

Nose: Hui, a strong sherry butt, as the color already showed. Strong raisins, cherries and Caribbean rum. Some oak flashes through, coffee notes and dark chocolate. Very strong in the nose - and after a while peppermint comes on,
    ...
Palate: Fits wonderfully to the nose. Dark fruits, chocolate (rather milk chocolate with a light finish towards mocha).

Finish: Hui, pleasant length. Warming with raisins

Conclusion: A great single malt, since vanWees has a very good barrel shopped. I recommend the enjoyment undiluted, water does not get him very well despite the high alcohol content. He is no longer available, but who wants to have a sample at cost price, write me a PN.

The best version of the series, for my taste.
    • Nose
      Round, sweet. Vegetable, woody.
    • Taste
Still compared with # 72318 # 72315. The set appears as more balanced in a version close enough to # 72315. The vegetal side is present but better integrated.
    • Finish
Of medium length, the whisky shows a more subtle facet very pleasant.

  22. TDMartijn scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

This is a great whisky! Period.

Heavy sherry: raisins, chocolate, nuts, prunes, figs, the works.

With water comes more spices in the 'nose' and the taste. Very nicely layered.

    Finish is long and lasting.

I'm glad I bought a few bottles of this series, these will become sought after.

Pretty close to the drum 72315, but this one is a bit more complex and gives me also thrills of contentment and more.

(note made as part of a F2F of the 7 Longmorn 1996 The Ultimate)
    • Nose
Pretty close to that of the 72315 drum, but a little more resinous and spicy. Big smell of banana outbreak that passes then disappears.
    • Taste
A kick that gives chills. Brown sugar, precious wood, cooked red fruits. Milk chocolate praline too.
    • Finish
Average. Resin in the throat and spices in the mouth.

  25. KayMeertens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Very heavy sherry. Raisins, dark chocolate, orange peel, prunes, dark cherries, mocha, brambles, sugar candy, marshmallow, apple and a little mint. A very easily drinkable cask strength.
I`ve tried five different ones from this series, and this one is still my favourite as it has it has that big, heavy, mature raisiny sherry character. It`s notacibly less spicy than some of the other casks though.
