Octomore's little brother Port Charlotte from Bruichladdich distillery is the peated NAS equivalent of 'The Classic Laddie'. Bottled at 50% ABV, the nose is obviously spirity and slightly rough with vegetal peatiness, brine and creamy citrus. With water, you get unripe banana, pickles and black pepper. Crisp and zesty in the arrival, the taste develops dry and mineral with honeydew melon, herbal spiciness and hints of oak. The finish is lasting and delicate with peat smoke and green tea. Although a bit pricey, it's not bad for a relatively young Islay Single Malt.

    Alcohol: 50%
Aroma: Hay, straw, freshness to prickness, sweet peat, sweet gum in the style of Mercury wheels, smoke, fruitiness. The scent is quite rich and fun. (89 b)
Taste: Citrus, spicy and fresh. Even that power is there for the benefit. The sweetness of the fruit is gradually poured into classic peat. Pears. In the aftertaste ash and dry. (87 b)
    Points: 88/100
Summary: The bottle is coming to an end, it was time to write impressions. Nice piece, I enjoy it.

Not so "heavily peated" as its introduction can make expect. More smoke on the nose than on the palate, that's quite fresh and full of green apple flavours. A bit disappointing at first taste, it reveals quite interesting once it gets some air. A drop of water can be helpful to smooth its 50% alcohol edges.

It's got a big Aroma punch but it can't hide it's youth either.
A good but overpriced Single Malt with rough Edges.

  10. Pyromann scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

Overall there is rather sharp, crudely woody character, typical of younger expressions. After PC An Turas Mor tasting (which was more smoky and peaty) I expected more. Presents itself as a younger, immature brother.
    • Nose
Saltiness, iodine, something like dead crabs / crab meat?
    • Taste
Oily, heavy in the mouth, Some peat in its weaker form. Lot of wood and harshness. Wound benefit from a drop of water.
    • Finish
      Woody, rough, medium long.
