Octomore's little brother Port Charlotte from Bruichladdich distillery is the peated NAS equivalent of 'The Classic Laddie'. Bottled at 50% ABV, the nose is obviously spirity and slightly rough with vegetal peatiness, brine and creamy citrus. With water, you get unripe banana, pickles and black pepper. Crisp and zesty in the arrival, the taste develops dry and mineral with honeydew melon, herbal spiciness and hints of oak. The finish is lasting and delicate with peat smoke and green tea. Although a bit pricey, it's not bad for a relatively young Islay Single Malt.

The key word for this whisky is balance. All the flavours are quite balance and not one is overpowering the others. Good!
    • Nose
Balance! The peat is definetly present but it doesn’t over power the fruitiness, sweet vanilla, brine and coal.
    • Taste
Same as the taste. But the non stick coal is just so nice.
    • Finish
Medium long with vanilla and seasalt

Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated 50% vol.

The content of phenols at the level of 40 ppm, matures in barrels from American and European oak, non-chill filtered, natural color

Nose: fruity (citruses), sweet peat, caramel, toffee, ash, earth, oranges, mango, hay, leather, needles, dry leaves, aromatic, mild, floral, vanilla, smoke, traces of rubber, pears, charred wood, iodine sea breeze, sand on the beach, tropical fruits wrapped in smoke

Taste: delicate, fruity, ripe apple, oranges, then smoke, earth, ash, slightly spicy notes, vanilla, caramel, smoked malt, leather, wet ropes, some medicaments, bandages, iodine, licorice, a bit of salt, dry grass, lime, salty caramel, sea salt, hay

Finish: long, malty, smoked barley, dry grass, oak, sweetness

Quite a lot of sweetness wrapped in peat smoke, it's very nice to drink, a lot is happening here and it's worth leaving it in a glass for some time and let the imagination bring with it the power of associations. Peat does not dominate the taste even though it is strongly perceptible. Whisky is well balanced and I will come back to it again and again.

Solid, smoky Islay malt. Not more but also not less. I especially liked the mouthfeel here. Of the flavors, however, he is interchangeable. I would advise the 10-year-old PC, which offers significantly more.
    • Nose
I expected a bit more smoke dominance at the beginning. The nose is characterized by sea air, malt, naturally smoke, increasing sweetness, roasted marshmallows, vanilla and some mint. I hardly find fruits. The alcohol is well integrated. Behind the back comes the ashtray into play.
    • Taste
Very nice mouthfeel and nice start. The 50% are clearly noticeable but not too much. The taste is less sweet than in the nose. Campfire smoke, oak, spice dominate the taste without becoming boring.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Dark chocolate, a smoldering Holzscheid, oak, barely sweet more available.

A very enjoyable Islay malt. Sweet and smokey, without being to in your face with the peat. Moderate complexity, but that was to be expected from a (somewhat entry) NAS whisky.
    • Nose
Sweet smoke, pear compote, rhubarb pie, and polished oak. Associations of sugared grapes, sweet oranges, wine gum (red/orange types) as well as cola.
    • Taste
Rather sweet, medicinal undertones of TCP, and a bright fruit cocktail – plums, peaches, apricots, pears, oranges etc. A good dose of oak intermingles with caramelized butter and custard pie.
    • Finish
Medium. Honeyed rooibos tea and sweet tannins that get more intense in the end.

"Heavily Peated" is quite right. A strong thing, and who loves this style of the Salty-Sulfurous, will be happy with it.
    • Nose
Selchrauchrauch with eggsticks, pleasant freshness. Reminds me of Easter Eggs.
    • Taste
Will come sharp and sulfurous on the tongue and in the mouth. Light fermented light grapes.
    • Finish
Is the finish a bit bitter, oak.
