Lots of good chocolaty notes and absolutely no faulty notes such as rubber, leather, sulphur etc.
Definitely one of the better Glendronach from this period 1990 to 1995. Fantastic!

Everytime I taste it, it gets even better - actually it's a real stunner. Best Glendronach I had so far. Thus rating increased again.

      95 95
Intense, lots of chocolate, toffee, dark fruits, dried fruits, plums, good sherry notes, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg - great!
    • Taste
      96 96
Punchy, oily, liquorice, good sweetness, more dried fruits, plums, figs, acacia honey, plenty of milk chocolate, fine sherry wood, spices, little nutmeg, also little citric, cooked oranges - excellent!
    • Finish
      94 94
Long, warm, more fruity, more citrus fruits, also bit more black teaish but not drying

    Serge says:

Colour: very dark amber. Nose: why this oloroso is sweeter than the PX on the nose, I don’t know. This is much more on classic prunes and raisins and Seville oranges and dark rum and… burnt matches. Not many, but quite a few. Some ham too, tobacco, then more old wine, barrels, saltpetre, chocolate… Tends to converge with the PXs I have to say. With water: chocolate, chocolate and chocolate. So it became narrower but if you like chocolate, this is for you. Mouth: very rich but crisper than the others. Blood oranges? Sure it’s a heavy baby but it’s sippable even at almost 60% vol. Maybe it’s just a little too prickly and gritty. Read ‘green and grassy’, as some sherry monsters can be. Water should help. With water: you bet it does! This time it’s cinchona, tonic water, pepper and ginger that play first fiddles but I love that. Indeed, I’m a Campari kind of guy. Finish: long, peppery, greatly bitter. The aftertaste is a little dusty but that actually works in this context. Comments: another 90. They’re all different but it’s just impossible to claim that one is ‘better’ than the others. Or even ‘more to my liking’, apologies Mom. SGP:461 - 90 points.

A big, bold and incredibly rich sherried single cask malt. Intense and
complex with a perfect balance of sherry and spicy flavours. Brilliant
nose and taste. Best to enjoy in front of an open fire.

    • Nose
Rich and thick with classic sherried notes: dark ripe fruits (mainly
cherries), rum soaked raisins, prunes and dates. Lots of Demerara sugar
along with dark chocolate, tobacco leaves, spice, and a hint of leather
coming through with a whiff of burnt matches. Gorgeous nose!
    • Taste
Initial swetness with lots of sherry, Demerara sugar, and raisins. Turns
into more spiciness (pepper, cinnamon) along with walnuts, dark bitter
chocolate, black currant, and herbal notes. Bold, rich and delicate with
lingering bitter orange zest and spice.
    • Finish
Quite long and sweet. Gets increasingly drier in the end with pepper
spice, walnuts, leather, a touch of strong espresso with a whiff of
      bitter orange peel.

WITH WATER: Water tames the alcohol and turns
the whisky into a soft and creamy one with liquorice sweetness, with a
touch of smoke and earthy/dusty notes.

Great color. I would say typical Glendronach taste, heavy sherried malt as expected. All good and nothing wrong, maybe I am just missing some extra kick to rate it higher, just my opinion.

A 19 year old sherry matured whisky from Glendronach, part of their 8th Batch of single casks. This was distilled back in 1994 and bottled in May 2013, having rested in an Oloroso Sherry butt.
