Rating: There are certainly more complex bottlings, but I find this single cask really good. For this Glendronach middle-aged, who brings exactly what I've hoped for from him and whose balance really impressed me with this alcohol strength, there are enjoyable 91 points. Tendency 92.
Intense, slightly sweet Oloroso sherry stands literally above the glass. The alcohol is remarkably well integrated. Blind I would not have typed on such a high cask strength. Undiluted, there are plenty of rum raisins, sultanas, juicy berries and a handful of sour cherries. This juicy-fruity first impression is formally bedded on rich, slightly earthy-looking barley malt and toffee. Over time, old leather gets stronger and stronger. In addition, it is increasingly nutty and every now and then whistling tobacco blows through. Finally, a buttery-creamy note is noticeable behind the scenes. I have to think of Crème Brulée, as it also has some caramelised brown sugar in it. A few drops of water reinforce the tobacco and leather notes a little; otherwise the filling is quite unimpressed. What is good. After the first sip, the nose becomes even spicier; the oak gets more weight and some furniture polish shimmers through. Overall, a really great nose that fully meets my expectations for this single cask.
Gently and as if interspersed with fine cocoa powder and wood dust, the drop hits the tip of the tongue. Immediately beautiful, intense dried fruits, chocolate and oak are present. Intense raisins, prunes, juicy berries, cherries and tobacco can be found 1: 1 in the taste again. There is really a lot of dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Everything damn well balanced. Even in the transition to the finish are still all tastes represented. But the focus shifts a little from the chocolate-fruity to the oak in cocoa powder coat. In the transition to the finish there is again this delicious tobacco and leather taste, in which I could sit down. Yum.
The finish is medium to long and a consistent continuation of the taste. There are no surprises, but it does not need that. Extremely harmonious and harmonious, the described tastes sound like. Until the very end, the delicious oak, raisins, chocolate, cocoa powder and a hint of espresso fill the mouth with fruity-dry and dry notes.
