Whisky Reviews for Glen Elgin 1991 IM

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Thick, tightly knocked down, do not say that is diverse and rich in a palette of derivatives, but all that is very to the point, this he reminded me of Japanese whisky; sherry barrel does not appear immediately, opening after a while, a good balance, competent work with the fortress, in general, very well.
    • Nose
Open, dry, woody-herbal notes, lemon zest, fruit salad, lacquer notes, eucalyptus, over time, appear dried fruits and mushroom motifs, fried nuts.
    • Taste
Thick, saturated, spicy oak, varnish, young bark bitter, red pepper, burnt crackers, leavened wort.
    • Finish
Dense, warming, medicinal herbs, mint, buckwheat honey, dried fruits.

  2. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Very, very nice sherry keg selected, the Glen Elgin perfectly complements, especially great flavor too.
    • Nose
Honey, "broth", raisins, rum barrel, lavender, grapefruit, oranges, leather notes, deep beautiful sherry
    • Taste
Strong, spicy, plum, orange, orange peel, leather, beautiful spices such as nutmeg, tea, clear sherry, oak
    • Finish
Long, orange with spice and sherry barrel stay behind

  4. Okto-Bull did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Nice thing, that shows that you should also go wild off the well-known distilleries.
    • Nose
slight sulfur notes; dark apples and chocolate; dark forest honey; Vanilla along with spices; Sherry flavors, with time it gets sweeter and walnuts add to the spice becomes more intense; the alcohol is very well integrated
    • Taste
creamy and amazingly soft for those over 50%; Chocolate and nuts; Corpse wort; Oak; Vanilla and honey
    • Finish
medium; Oak, very nut-heavy; Chocolate, light bitterness, but sweetness clearly dominates; nice spice; with a little soap (but delicious); getting dry

A simple profile but I liked it and water is not needed,
    • Nose
The nose is a little prickly on melted butter, faint honey, chopped almond, slight cardboard notes and some meat stew.
    • Taste
Much better than the nose suggests actually on caramel, smoked ham & cheese (mainly the ham).

It gets sweeter after a few minutes and it is syrupy sweetness and sugared almonds.
    • Finish
Medium length with some milk chocolate notes

  7. BXpress scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Not bad, but it feels like you really need to spend time with it.
    • Nose
Meaty, stewed beef to be specific. Orange skin and mint leaves. Very shy at first nosing but also very fresh in a way. Something powdery about it, like that artificial orange juice powder. Gets more sherried after a some time. Raisins, chocolate cake, tobacco.
    • Taste
Caramel at first, goes on with brown sugar and then cafe latte. Soft at first but gets then very bitter in the development. A little too much maybe. Water needed: much better, even if it gets a little hotter. A bit more raisins and chocolate now. Black tea notes as well.
    • Finish
Long enough. Big on dates and even a little dry. Leaves some milk chocolate in the aftertaste which is great.

    • Nose
      süss, Sherry, Vanille
    • Taste
      würzig, süss, intensiv
    • Finish
      langer Abgang, bitter Noten

You can tell him his age of 21 years. Sophisticated nose and ripe taste. Great as it changes in the air or with a little water again and again.
    • Nose
Old sherry barrel, raisins, oranges, Bouillion, but also grapefruit, kiwi, vanilla and a lot of honey.
      Nice interplay of complex flavors.
    • Taste
Starts delicate, oily, sweet, caressing, becomes more vigorous and spicy when distributed on the tongue.
    • Finish
Long on dark chocolate, sweet plums with a splash of lemon and a lot of oak, spicy-woody and slightly dry.
