A maritime Glenrothes? Fishes of Samoa?
Drinkable but not convincing - I rather prefer a maritime Bowmore with some peat and smoke

Butterscotch with ball bottom and hazelnuts in strength. Some cooked fruits. Pretty beautiful, even if not very complex and evolutive. With water, it gives more towards dark chocolate. Fine and strong attack on milk chocolate and immediate impression of great maturity, it does not reveal much else in the mouth after the fact. More sweet and warm with a little water. Beautiful and long on chocolate. The quintessence of Speyside.

    Enthusiasm 4/5

What a surprising whisky! Very special, and very tasty. Nose is floral / fruity, wax, butter babe and a bit soggy. The taste gives more butter babbler and the basic of the soap (sometimes a bit of perfume) comes through more. Fruit always remains present. In the aftertaste deliciously sweet and progress to a small hint of wood.

Fragrance slightly discreet, rose water and Grapa. Then the fruits rear up a bit and everything together leaves a medium long finish. But this Grapa appeal ... Was that really an excellent sherry keg? What was already there before this drop?

  14. moviemaniac scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A no-frills single cask Glenrothes exhibiting a fine mix of distillery character and refill-cask influence. A light, fruity-sweet (mixture of european and tropical fruits with honey), well-aged malt not the most complex, but very rewarding.

With water it is even better and creamier, leaves you wanting another glass.

    A good whisky.
    • Nose
Honeydew melon, lemon drizzle cake, white wine.
    • Taste
Creamy on shortbread, puff pastry, still getting some lemon with a little lime thrown in. I also get light warm spongcake.
    • Finish
Medium length with a lightly fizzy bitterness at the end.

Not overly complex but it works well for this. A gentle, good tasting dram with a great nose and palate and a decent finish. The sherry is there but not overwhelming, it's not all woody, a really excellent older whisky.
    • Nose
Maple Syrup. Sticky sweet sherry. Candy Apple. Varnished wood floor in a musty old building. 2nd hand bookshop. Stewed apricots. Pears in Custard. Barley sugar. The mildest hint of woodspice. Butterscotch.
    • Taste
Juicy rich wood. Some more sweet fruity sherry notes. Dessert wine. Syrup from canned fruit salad. Mild saltiness.
    • Finish
Med-long. Mildly sweet sticky sherry. Long dry oaky notes

A qualitative bottle and another success by Archives.
    • Nose
Orchard fruits (pears, hot apples), citrus fruits (oranges), spices, eucalyptus honey, floral and grassy notes.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy on the palate, with notes of fruit sprinkled with vanilla, spices (sweet pepper, ginger), malt (breakfast cereals), then a sort of herbal tea with a chamomile-licorice-peppermint mixture Which brings non refresh A little austere.
    • Finish
Moderately long with notes of spicy sweets turning on a slight bitterness.

Basically flawless. No sherry associated off-notes.A rather unimpressive whisky, especially at 25 years of age. No dram to meditate on, but a simple pleasure.
    • Nose
Quite restrained. Doesn’t give away much. On the other hand: the alcohol is also not perceptible.

      with water:

Opens up just a little bit. Sweet sherry and a hint of fruitiness.
    • Taste
Ageeable medium body with a touch of creaminess. Sweet sherry and fruits are present, but quite muted and unspectacular.

      with water:

Brings the alcohol to the foreground, but nothing much happens tastewise.
    • Finish
A bit unpleasant because the alcohol suddenly asserts itself, and overwhelms everything else. Which, of course, is easily done.

      with water:

      Smoothes the overstated alcohol out.

nosing is better than the palate, coz it changes as time goes by.
It's a pretty young mouthfeel. A little too spicy for me!

Sweet nose (honey, vanilla and sugared almonds) balanced out by a nice touch of freshly cut grass and wet hay. A drop of water brought out more fruity elements (apples and a hint of citrus fruits). Beautifully balanced on the palate, where lovely creamy aspects are melded with the honey and vanilla. The sweet and creamy aspects continue to linger throughout the medium-long finish, although a touch of bitterness creeps in at the end. By some distance the best Glenrothes I've had a chance to try (I wasn't impressed by the recent lower end OBs).

n: cream and cake, hint of pear.

t: honey and more cream, full and lasting flavour.

f: burned suger and butterscotch sweets, whipped cream.

    great fun and beautiful creamy.

  33. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Compared with the previous '88 Glenrothes from Archives (ID 33177), this one is sweeter, more full-bodied, less grassy and less zesty. I prefer this one.
    • Nose
Light and sweet with pear, honey, vanilla, straw and fig.
    • Taste
Vanilla sugar, honey, malt, pear and straw. A drop of water brings out some caramel and eucalyptus, but this whisky is so sweet and smooth that it doesn't really need that.
    • Finish
      Vanilla, malt sugar and honey.
