Whisky Reviews for Ardmore 1991 GM

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.00 points

  1. Implar scored this whisky 77 points Expert Junior

    Color: pale gold

Nose: Some pears and sour lemon, then some ash. The peat is quite subdued, but there's quite a bit of heat coming from the nose. After a while, it gets a bit sweeter with banana notes.

Palate: Drying oak, tar and ash, then some pepper. A very simple palate, too bad some of the fruity notes from the nose don't come through

Finish: The ash continues for a while, some very feint hints of honey.

I'm not a fan of this one. The nose is already quite simplistic, and the palate even more so. Maybe the casks were charred too much?http://whiskyinformer.com/home/ardmore-19912006-gordon-macphail

    TASTING NOTE by G&M;

    Colour: Pale gold.

    WITHOUT WATER:

Nose: Very fresh with tropical fruit notes and hints of toasted malt. A subtle

touch of fire embers and ash linger. Hint of citrus emerges.

Palate: A very delicate touch of smoke - bonfire embers. Rich dark chocolate

    influences with a peppery edge.

    WITH WATER:

Nose: Fresh - grass like. Sweet fudge notes with a subtle hint of mixed spices

    (Christmas cake).

Palate: A burst of chilli spices - mouth warming. Ground pepper develops and

becomes very fruity - ripe exotic fruits.

    Body: Medium.

    Finish: Long.

Cask Type(s): First fill bourbon barrel.

Whisky Style: Warming and complex cask strength whisky.

  4. Willie JJ scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

An interesting dram, but somehow it lacks charm. Better with a couple of drops of water.
    • Nose
Smokey barley sugar with pears. Wood smoke rather than peat. Water softens the smoke and brings apple and banana.
    • Taste
Sweet barley and lemon with hot ash. Less dry with water and the ash becomes sherbetty.
    • Finish
Drying and sugary. Water gives lemon and pears, little sparkles of sugar and chilli. Old ashtray at the end.
