    • Nose

Warmth of dry red fruits, herbs, tea essence, nutmeg & allspice. Soon later the salty sea wind on the beach in the autumn .. - lots of iodine, medicinal hints (I was born at the seaside). Some maggi/worcester/balsamico di Modena, dark honey, natural wax, wet ex-sherry dark wood. Alcohol noticeable but rather well covered by other scents.
    • Taste
      90 90
Starts with a ineral touch, with some nice herbs, not disturbing at all. Sweetness develop in mouth, together with some roasted plums, toasted wood, dark wallnuts? At some point becoming crispy, like salty crackers. Orange oil, maybe 70% cocoa chocolate, and a bit of iodine pops out at the end
    • Finish
      90 90
Warm, smooth but maritime at the same time. Mix of cherry and plum pits with washed wood and medicinal taste. Brings memory of an old-fashionedx dry-taste cherry casks, totally not sweet (unlike today's cheery casks) but rather deep in sensory experiences.

nothing special - maybe I'm just too stupid to understand the genius
    • Nose
burnt paper, sour syrupy port note, BBQ sauce, burnt car tires, quite dense - somehow too acidic
    • Taste
sweet and fruity with fine smoke, liquorice

Not really a typical Springbank. It's cask driven by the sweet port cask and some gentile peat. When adding a bit of water, there's a note of that 'Campbeltown orangery' like i call it.

What should I say ... I find the endgeil!
    • Nose
I'm standing on the part ... Really nice, juicy pipe smoke with slightly sour blackberry flavor. A sweet leather note and liquorice. Very full with lots of berry notes. Herbs, dark chocolate, vanilla. Moist tobacco and wet wood. Slightly salty and moldy water. With time in the glass cloves and nutmeg come with a pinch of cinnamon. Smells like gingerbread dough. Personally, I find that the alcohol is very well integrated. He just brings a slight mental coolness with him. There is still a bitterness that reminds me of cold espresso.
    • Taste
Tough, honey-like, spicy onset. The subtle pipe smoke is now more sweetish. Nut chocolate, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries ... a fruit basket. Herbs, cinnamon, vanilla and tobacco. The bitterness in the taste is more nutty and woody. Cereal and a pinch of pepper. But everything is somehow picked up by an oily sweetie. The alcohol suits me and brings a subtle sharpness, power and freshness.
    • Finish
Long and spicy. Some pepper and again the gingerbread spices. Moist, sweetish tobacco stays longer. The track smoke, makes the overall picture complete!

So I love Springer, on the one hand, the smoky old-school character has and at the same time a sweet influence positively fights against it.
    • Nose
You notice the port immediately, super sweet and great honey, hazelnut, brown sugar, heather meadow, peach and glazed apple, walnut, you can easily tell the Oldschool Springer, but the smoked oak briquettes stay further behind
    • Taste
Peach, red apple, walnut with brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, red, juicy pear, milk chocolate, chestnut, hint of incense, hazelnut and honey
    • Finish
Dry, dark malt, cardamom, mead, cinnamon, chestnut, cocoa powder, long

In the nose comes first strong alcohol, probably a cask strength. Then red fruits, a little smoke, seasoning. All this is very intertwined with each other. A little later, the fruits are sweeter.

In the mouth it starts very strong, full-bodied and very spicy. After that it becomes fruity and always sweeter. The individual flavors are very difficult to grasp. The spice goes towards cinnamon, slight spiciness, maybe a little cardamom. Then come red fruits, red wine, mead.

The finish is medium long, sweet with light cocoa notes and a little smoke.

With a little water, it is a bit rounder and more pleasing, with a slight sharpness remains noticeable and the spices are very present.

a dirty whisky the way I like it
incredibly spicy with pleasantly fruity sweetness
from sip to sip, the oak becomes stronger in the finish
with a little bit of water he likes me better than pure
    • Nose
initially quite closed, the alcohol holds the flavors
After a few minutes, the spicy-fruity Portaromen come out
      Mulled wine and gingerbread
      harbor water

      with water:
      the aroma opens
not even as fruity, rather spicy
    • Taste
the 56% Alk are strong, but not burning
a spicy start and then getting sweeter

      with water:
      initially spicy again
behind it a sweet, red fruit
is there smoke now? Or is that just the port water?
    • Finish
The finish is long with espresso notes

  17. Gloin scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

That's a great whisky. Unfortunately, the alcohol is a bit dominant. But the whisky still brings with it what one expects from a top-drop: intensity, barrel flavors, dark fruits and the light smoke leads to a wonderful complexity without being overstrained

    blind tasting
    • Nose
Hot alcohol, that's certainly a high-percentage cask strength, so let's breathe first ... sweet red grapes, light sherry, some wood and a soft smoke note I can perceive. The whisky smells great and requires attention
    • Taste
Strong onset, but although the whisky is spicy, the alcohol is still relatively well involved. Then it will be sweet. I have to think of faintly glowing ashes, caramelized plums appear in the background, but also spicy oak and the memory of salt
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, with notes of oak without bitterness and gentle smoke
