Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1997 AD

  1. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

1 of only 293 bottles from cask no. 6521
An active American oak hogshead has produced the sharp, clear orange lights and golden syrup colour of this intriguing north Highland whisky which takes a little time to reveal itself. Excellent beading indicates the usual thick mouthfeel that we expect from Clynelish. The opening notes of dusty drawers in a wax polished desk give way to dried Madeira cake with manuka honey in the background. Reducing the strength produces fragrant beeswax and a delicious bowl of mushy berries. The searching mouth texture finds every nook and cranny and finishes off with a sprinkling of white pepper. Another great cask from this excellent vintage of Clynelish!

  2. Segens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I love Clynelish but this one is nothing really special unfortunately. It is good don't get me wrong but for the asked price today (160€ - 04/2017) there are so many better Clynelish bottles out there.
    • Nose
vanilla, cream, toffee & caramel . Smooth, decent -> quite nice!
    • Taste
The nose continues in the mouth

It is reminding me a bit on my young years having a Werther's Original on the tongue.
    • Finish
finish is also nice but a bit sour which is not negative but notable.

  3. malt_fan_06 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Nice nose, also good in the mouth. Unfortunately, the finish messed up completely.
    • Nose
The typical Clynelish fruitiness (Mirabelle, Reneclauden, yellow apples), beeswax, vanilla and oak.
    • Taste
Velvety-oily, sweet, powerful, beautiful fruit, volume, pure-yellow. Intensive. Delicious.
    • Finish
short-medium. Spicy, vanilla, elegant, not particularly expressive. Clearly drying at the back.

  4. Hare&Copper scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    Great 1997 Clynelish.
    • Nose
Ripe fruits - peach, apricot. Spiced apple cake. Slightly dusty. Beeswax.
    • Taste
Lots of honey. Fruit, spice, heather (floral). Green sherbet lollies, but not too sweet. More wax.
    • Finish
      Creamy, pleasant, lingering spice.
