Laphroaig at it´s best, the 18 Y imho represents the character of the distilery like no other bottling, except the CS. The 18 years in the cask took a bit of the alcohol edge and therefore added some nice compexity. Smoke, iodine, salt, wood and phenol, an amazing dram. Get it while you can

A Laph right in his boots, a classic French GDS. He was a very good Q / P, no more now.
    It lacks complexity elsewhere.
    • Nose
A carnivorous peat, on the smoking of meat or fish. There is salt and this medicinal side of Laphroaig. A nice nose.
    • Taste
Light attack, it rises crescendo during the tasting.
Always on peat oil, smoking fish. Spices make their appearance and a vegetal side.
    • Finish
Average length on cocoa, gourmet and vanilla peat. There is also this side leather that I did not have before but that is very pleasant.

Great smoky-sweet malt. The aromas are well balanced and the smoke is well integrated. Very interesting and nice smoky-sweet mouthfeel. For 140 € but very expensive. The Talisker 18J says more to me.
    • Nose
      87 87
pleasant smoke (phenolic-sweet); maritime salty note; beautiful sweetness behind it; spices; very pleasant
    • Taste
      89 89
superficially smoky with notes of peat; behind it fine pronounced sweetness; spicy oak; lies pleasantly oily in the mouth
    • Finish
      87 87
strong smoky; spicy; nice sweetie; no bitterness; the smoke lasts a long time; minimal and pleasant iodine note

  6. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Fruity, harmonious nose, banana, vanilla, marzipan, and of course some peat. In the mouth then much peat smoke, slightly dry, slightly peppery, long finish. Nice.

  7. SweetPeat scored this whisky 83 points Member Senior

A good whisky, but not the revelation I was hoping for. He is more mature and calmer than the 10s, oily and soft, but not very complex. I would not buy a bottle for the price.
    • Nose
put smoke, some disinfectant, iodine, ham, "bacon", citrus, caramel, vanilla, oak
    • Taste
very oily, the 48% feel very soft. Smoke, salt, ham, then a nice sweetness and a light fruitiness, but I can not assign.
    • Finish
very long (10/10), smoky, herbaceous, salty

Kind of sad to realize that I bought a bottle of this wonderful malt for less than half the price back in 2015. Just 3 years ago... €54. Still have the receipt. Thought it was very expensive.

    Laphroaig 18-year @48%

My second bottle and I just don't get it. The 10-year is so incredible, but this takes away the vibrancy and I can't really pick up on any added complexity. I'll probably try for another bottle because I'm weak, but meh.
    • Nose
Classic Laphroaig peat. Definitely tamed and toured with the extra years. Some vanilla and rather prominent oak.
    • Taste
Full body. Not a problem. Peaty and woody.
    • Finish
      Dry, peaty, some bitter oak.
