Whisky Reviews for Girvan 1965 HH

  1. WhiskyLovingPianist did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

N: Its old but the varnish isn't as thick as you often find in 40+ grains. Massive vanilla, nondescript fruit compote and macadamia nuts. The nose is very dense and closed, I'm not getting much, I'm going to leave it to breath for a while. Theres a lot of wafer here, pink wafer biscuits in particular along with bakers cake glaze, which is essentially milky sugar with vanilla essence. Theres something of the countryside here, floral notes, scorched lawns and butter icing.
T: Sharp, bitter/sweet fruits, dark and heavy, a touch of varnish, bourbon and dry sherry.
F: Old oily wood, black treacle, some vanilla caramel and a bitter comfrey tea. Very drying and cloying
C: Not the greatest grain whisky. Sadly after nearly half a century, this is a non event.

    Scores an N [near miss]
