So is this both an angel and demon? Well it's a complex dram that combines different aspects of whisky. Not very extreme or harsh however. The sherry, bourbon and peated cask are well intergraded.

Too bad it's such a hype, because great whisky deserves to be known for there taste and not for a nice packaging.
    • Nose
Some nice apples, the red ones. The fruit is very creamy. The sherry casks are not very active. Some salt and minerals.
    • Taste
On the palate it is much more obvious an island whisky. The minerals are more pronounced. Wood smoke, at first on the background and with time it grows. Still fruity, thick and creamy.
Some nice spices such as cinnamon, some ginger/nutmeg and warm apples with chilly.
    • Finish
More smoke, but still this ain't a very peaty whisky.

A well-cut whisky, after the aroma, I, frankly, expected the dominance of sharp woody notes, but the reality turned out to be much more pleasant - there is a lot of oak, but everything is very neatly and harmoniously inscribed in the overall picture, so even I, who do not particularly like the excess of wood, really liked it .
    • Nose
Open, wet, freshly sawn boards, coated tablets, lemon peel, sharp mineral notes - stone chips, something like soda (dishwashing detergent), chalk, plaster; floral-honey shades, caramel sweetness.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, strong woody notes, very concentrated, but not turning into "oak juice", creamy tones - fudge, toffee, lemon peel, astringency of the bark, leather goods, a little tobacco, floral-honey shades.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, slowly fading oak motifs, juicy, soft, leather goods, tobacco, a little pepper and creamy sweetness.

Mandarin, pear, malty, honey, Granny Smith, hay, pafrum, crème bruleé, pineapple juice, apple compote, hazelnuts and wet wood. Later, the scents come as raisins, overripe banana, squeezed cigarette butts and wine or sherry notes.
    • Taste
      86 86
Granny Smith, pepper, vanilla, creme brulee, wood, hay, raisins, ginger, malty, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, and mandarin.
    • Finish

Actually not much difference than with the taste, only the tart sour taste, alternating with sweet / honey-bitter notes forms the finish.

Give away a lot of potential. The nose is fantastic with tropical fruits, lemon, marzipan, light sherry and pleasant spicy oak. In the taste and Angang but then young, alcoholic and "bad" oak. The nice things like the fruit compote, sweet sherry and some herbs are still there but the negative notes can not be hidden.

    • Taste
Powerful and oily. Sherry, bitter chocolate, vanilla, raisin, green apple, papaya, citruses, tobacco, ginger and nutmeg. Touch of smoke.

Very interesting, exotic-looking blend, great craft behind it!
    • Nose
Great mocha nose, moist tobacco, pine forest, thyme, dried fruit discreetly behind, dates
    • Taste
Mouthwash, vanilla, nuts, exotic fruits, papaya, some malt, oak, earthy, great cocoa
    • Finish
Caramel, earthy-oak, malt, cocoa powder, medium-long

The nose is a lot more expressive and engaging than the actual taste. But still a nice dram.
    • Nose
Some cacao, honey, cookie dough, raisins. Some hints of good quality tobacco. Pleasant.
    • Taste
Some cacao bitters (lovely), dates, tobacco and some smoke. It’s a really sherried whisky this one.
    • Finish
Honey, that bitter cacao note and bitter oranges.

A well-designed, complex and multifaceted dram. Not easy to apprehend, it is nonetheless pleasant to drink. Too bad it misses a little surprise!
    • Nose
Alcoholic and malty ... Seems to need to open a few minutes. Fresh mint, lemon, meringue. A zest of orange blossom. It is rather pleasant even if the alcohol is a little disturbing. Cashew nuts. Spices, yellow fruits, dried fruits, aromatic herbs. A pretty rich profile rather interesting. A little milk chocolate. Citrus and spicy with the opening. A bit of tobacco and chocolate.
    • Taste
Sweet, on the wall fruit, vanilla, bitter dark chocolate, pepper. It's rather complex. Notes of ginger, cinnamon and a hint of smoke. It's well designed by Arran.
    • Finish
Alcoholic, on spices, mint and chocolate. Persistent and fresh.

    Malty, even a little smokeyness.

Tasty dram, but there are better Arran's out there.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Dried fruit and wood spices with notes of mocha and tobacco leaf.
Palate: Vanilla, mixed nuts, juicy prunes, dried papaya and chocolate liqueurs.
Finish: Caramel, cocoa and earthy winter spices.
Overall: Dark and mysterious, but all good.

I should have known that it was an arran with green apple notes. It is however less "fresh" than other arran, but more creamy. OK, but nothing more. Price abused
    • Nose
      Blind tested.

Green apple, notes a little medicinal but very indented (drugs, compress, adhesive plaster, synthol ...)
    • Taste
Very sweet, a little creamy. Always the green apple. Well integrated alcohol
    • Finish
      Medium, stewed fruit

Tasted blind. Expressive nose, popping popcorn, green fruits, apple and strawberry. Greasy mouth, fruity, but an embarrassing bitterness arises and then grows. Final on the plum. Bad q / p.

At first I was very apprehensive of this dirty side I noticed in the beginning. It was a big letdown. But I gave it some time and it opened up a whole new register of aromas. Really good! I like this!
    • Nose
This is heavy! Grainy, light spirit character mostly with a layer of soft sweet peatsmoke on top. Also a little manure, cow stable. It's really pretty dirty. Wet hay, compost and a bit of ozone. With some time there's citrus, brown sugar and grass.
    • Taste
More smokey than the nose. Like cigar smoke from a vanilla cigar (cigarillo). Quite malty and grainy at first, young spirit. Then a fruity side, lemons and green apples. A woody smokey side appears (cigar box) with yet again this dirty aroma of wet hay and cow manure. Or is it my weird imagination? It sounds very bad but it actually adds complexity in this case. Also a little bit of wax?
    • Finish
This is where the sherry matured spirit emerges. Notes of caramel, sultanas and dried apricots. Ends waxy and lingers very long.

The creamy palate is the best part of this whisky. But it is less balanced and there I found there was less of a sherry influence compared to the first chapter, which is surprising considering the amount of sherry casks used for this one. Good whisky, but not necessarily a worthy successor.
    • Nose
Grassier and more organic than its predecessor. Malty, then banana and citrus. A little metallic and some subtle, but clearly present sweet peaty flavors. Also some tobacco and marzipan. A bit boring maybe?
    • Taste
Great oily and creamy mouthfeel. Some fresh peat, some smoke, an earthy whisky almost. Less spicy than the first Devil's Punch Bowl, but there are still some spices here. Ginger, nutmeg. Also a nutty flavour, next to some coconut shavings.
    • Finish
Some citrus, followed by smoke and spices.

This is the first time I've had a Devil's Punch Bowl, and frankly I do not understand the buzz around these traffic jams. I find that there are other more interesting Arran traffic jams.
    • Nose
Malty nose. Light smoke.A bit of tobacco and hazelnut.
    • Taste
Vanilla, very present pepper that partially obscures the rest. Tart apple
    • Finish
Swirls of smoke rise in the nose. Drought of nuts, various spices.

    Tasting Notes and Comments by Arran;

Nose: The nose is vibrant with the hallmark notes of classic dried fruits, light spice and cigar box as the base of Sherry comes to the fore and sets the tone for this complex dram.Palate: Here the depth of the Sherry sweetness comes into its own. Notes of dark chocolate with a layer of delicate butterscotch spice mingle to create a rich initial burst of character. With a dash of water, the lighter shade of the Bourbon barrel emerges with soft citrus and vanilla notes dancing on the tongue.Finish: Over time, the fresh citrus is counterbalanced by the earthy nature of the Peated barrels. The depth of spice and light twist of smoke will intrigue you long after the last drop has disappeared.

Second release of Arran after the `Devils`s Punchbowl`. Inspired by the `Coire na Ciche` mountain range, this` multivintage` was named Angels & Demons. It has become a setting of 27 different Arran vessels, based on Hogsheads from `97 and` 98. The Angels & Demons was composed with barrels from 2004: these are the oldest (topped) barrels that Arran has. Bottled at vessel strength (53.1%), without staining or cold filtration. Promised thanks to Master distiller `James MecTaggart` to become a Devil's release again ...
