...like this one. It is a flawless and delicious blending malt that is easy to sip and interesting to explore if you like such profiles (I do). Exactly the way whisky should be.
The colour is pale gold and the nose offers a bready-grassy profile that is very common among blender's malts like Dailuaine. It is rather bold (compared to other blending base malts) and there are some fine fruity and spicy notes too creating an interesting and delicious mixture of aromas. No off-note or imbalance, a fine nose for lovers of this genre...
The taste is barley sugary sweet with fruity, honeyed and spicy flavours in a balanced setting. The wood provides a firm structure but never dominates, perfect! This dram is greatly chewable but not really layered. Water releases much more aromas in the nose (waxy, chalky, earthy) and the taste gets smoother hence more quaffable. I like this dram best when reduced to about 40% abv.
The dram arrives warming and coating on the palate without distracting moments. The finish is of medium length and adds some waxy and bitter tea-ish flavours with a minor drying touch but this never gets distracting.
