For me - this is my first Clynelish. Bought on Jim Murrays recommendation. Quite a challenging dram. I find this one demands a drop of water. I've heard Clynelish often delivers apples and a certain waxiness (under 20yrs), and this one certainly doesn't disappoint... It feels 'young' - younger than it's 16yrs. I get the waxiness and buckets of apples on the nose - more like the apple flavouring you get in sweets - sour green apple? Perhaps some pear drops too? It's very spirity (and i'm used to cask strength); hot, sharp sweet/ sour - very different - but tamed with a teaspoon or two of water - this way you get two drams in one - a cask strenth bruiser and something very different and complex with water.  The sherry is there, but very much quiet - in the background. The apple/ fruity theme extends into the finish and so far (I'm half way thru the bottle this fruitiness has been consistent) , I'm also reminded of good reisling wine - the 'petrol/ mineral notes.

90+ points from me - because it's unusual and because it appears to have a 'classic' Clynelishiness about it...!!!

Not what I like or research. It's special with odd notes both on the nose and in the mouth. The finish is nice and leaves an impression of freshness.
    Blind tasting: http://www.whisky-distilleries.info/WhiskyWDTS/2014-02/index_EN.shtml
    • Nose
Closed. Mineral, I do not know why but it makes me think of the boursin (cheese)! Opens on vegetal notes: mountain plants. Not my thing.
    • Taste
More peps. It starts with nice fruity notes relatively melted, supported by a delicate woody and then it evolves towards naphthalene! Very strange! Pepper very present + some floral flavors.
    • Finish
Very long, fresh, after eight, soap / laundry, peppermint
