Nice Ardbeg, I like the red wine notes. This whisky makes you go to bed instantly . You just cant taste anything after that!
    • Nose
Baked apple, vanilla and vanilla sauce, sweet, pear, chop, coffee, salt, raisins, glue, fireworks, bakery, muffins, fresh baked pastry, dough, fish, smoky, red wine, maybe bordeaux or merlot?!
    • Taste
Fire ( dont ask how fire tastes, try it for yourself if you want to (not recommended)), wood, oregano, peatsmoke, sweet, barbecue, paprika, allspice, leather, fresh peat, meat, smoked bacon, smoked fat
    • Finish
peat, vanilla, red wine, smoky, woody, long long long. Its like you wake up and directly think : Corryvreckan!

Corryvreckan was one of several new expressions introduced to Ardbeg's lineup in 2008. Initially produced as an exclusive bottling for members of the Ardbeg Committee, it was subsequently added to the core range, replacing the popular Airigh Nam Beist 1990.
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Head of Distilling and Whisky Creation for Ardbeg, explains that Corryvreckan was introduced as the best possible way of utilizing spirit that he had previously laid down in new French oak casks. According Lumsden, "the heart of Corryvreckan uses whiskies distilled in 1998/99 and 2000, and is married with some slightly younger ‘classic’ Ardbeg whiskies." The whisky from the French oak casks have particularly tarry, spicy, leathery characteristics, which Lumsden felt "on their own, were too intense to bottle." The distillery has sporadically filled such casks with new spirit, allowing them to keep Corryvreckan going as part of the core range.
