a delicious, but not overpowering fruity Speysider. Very water-shy!
    • Nose
Pure: a nice balance of fruit gum with pear and honey notes. After a while he looks more mature, darker, a little more flowery. Delicious! With some water: now saltier, mineral, grassy. The fruit loses space. Not good,
    • Taste
Pure: relatively sharp start, but he is rewarded by banana split vanilla ice cream with peach sauce. Also delicious! With water: loses a lot of body and body, now relatively sprittig. Pur much better.
    • Finish
      long, round, soft, fruity.

N: Sweet condensed fruits, lime, bananas [a Balblair-esque edge] and almost liqueur/syrup like [Grenadine]
T: Spice, more spice and pepper [a memory of Talisker 57 degrees]. Ok, now come bananas & limes and a hint of Cointreau/Baileys cream vibe. Burned oak is present.
F: Quickly drying with some sour notes. Pepper & spices linger but eventually mellow as sweet barley comes through.
C: Very reminiscent of Talisker [in its cask influence] with [spirit] notes of Balblair. The pepper spice is too dominant for me, but it's good whisky all the same.

    Scores a B-

Tormore 29 yo 1984 (51%, Archives ‘The Fishes of Samoa’ 2013, barrel #3669, 90 btl.)

Nose: fruity sweetness with plenty of oranges, as well as apples, pineapples and other citrus fruits, mainly pink grapefruit. Fresh, with nice aromatic bergamot notes, and coated with hints of marshmallows. Some vanilla and white chocolate. Soft ginger, pepper and new oak. Mouth: still fruity (orange, apple and pineapple) but definitely more spices now, mainly nutmeg and pepper. Even a little mustard heat before slowing down to chocolate notes. Finish: medium long, lingering fruits and still this generous spicy kick.

A nicely unique Tormore with a big fruity side but also strong wood spices. Around € 145, available from the Whiskybase shop.

    Score: 88/100

Fruity and greedy with a nice balance
    • Nose
A very sweet bourbon side (vanilla / caramel), very fruity (orange, mango, apricot), a little fresh mint and a slightly sour smell like raw pie dough.
There is a small note of solvent but the alcohol is pretty well integrated. With aeration we go on melon and banana and a chemical fragrance like green crocos Haribo.
    • Taste
Less sweet than the nose but quite fruity (yellow) with spices (cinnamon, white pepper) and a nice bitterness on liquorice (quite powerful)
The water (to avoid) makes leave a side vegetal (green fruits) and makes it less explosive ...
    • Finish
Creamy on mango and marzipan but a little short.

    a tremendous finale!
    • Nose
light peppermint, nettle powder, green apples, a pinch of salt, pear, lightest vanilla, leather?
    • Taste
slight tingling on the tongue, fruit, honey, flowers, slightly spicy
    • Finish
and now comes a tremendous impetus, ripe fruit, vanilla, peppery, some wood

N: old bourbon fruits - peach, dusty, spices - cinnamon, creamy and chocolate
T: bitter fruits, spices - aniseed, fudge, citrus - lemon, honey, vanilla and orange
F: medium with coffee, creamy fudge and spices - white pepper

great cask, nice strength and good pick by the Whiskybase crew!

The nose is lovely fruity and floral sweetness with creme brulee and mild spices.

In the mouth it explodes with flavor of orange and loads of other fruits, creamy, creme brulee, cake, vanilla, flowers and spices like nutmeg and pepper.

The finish is surprisingly dry considering the fruity and light flavor profile. Now more malts, oak and a light smokiness in the background kick in. Lingers nicely and medium long with more strong spices like pepper and chili and deep fruit, orange zest mainly, malts and oak.

    A very good Tormore.
    • Nose
Warm, soft, fresh, clean, with grainy notes, tea and oranges. A fresh floral scent. Caramel and a whiff of smoke in the background. Imagine sitting on a leather chair in front of a fire place. Very nice.
    • Taste
Powerful, spicy and sparkling at first mouthfeel with notes of black tea and caramel. Oranges and orange zest, grains and lots of spices - mainly pepper, nutmeg, a little bit of ginger and chillies. Lovely.
    • Finish
Medium long, oaky and spicy, nothing unpleasant. The aromas from the palate slowly fade away.
