Beautifully balanced Bruichladdich. Non-age-stated but apparently some much older malt here as the casks involved "add up to" 50 years of age (five-o years of age har har), and we're not talking about very many casks it seems. In any case they were chosen wisely as the age is palpable and the whisky is delightfully well rounded but still unique and memorable. Though the distillery's polarizing lactic notes are not a major part of this dram's character.

I really enjoyed the sample of this that I had and would have loved a whole bottle. Complex, there is no substitute for the older malt here.
    • Nose
Raspberry, dried cranberry, sea salt, buttery almonds, grains, caramel sweetness. Brings to mind a fruity, salted granola bar. With time airing out, an oxidized milk chocolate note comes out. Very fruity and coastal aroma.
    • Taste
Bright and sweet up front. Honey, dried cranberries again, very vibrant and a little salty. Ground pepper, orchard fruits. Full-bodied meaty red wine, with the grapes and the woody spice providing a brief moment that’s almost armagnac-y. I very much suspect there is a red wine cask in here!
    • Finish
The age is felt most strongly here… Pleasant, rich bitterness to offset the sweetness, lots of peppery oak spice. Very rich and dry now but not tannic. Big red wine again, with astringent grape skins, then earthy pungent tea leaves (pu-ehr?) and unsmoked tobacco.

    http://www.weinkenner.de/2013/feis-ile-2013-tasting-mit-ardbog-bowmore-bruichladdich-lagavulin-und-laphroaig-27719/ Color: corn yellow
Nose: sweet, honey, malt, caramel, corn, maritime lemon, raspberry ice cream; a little perfumed.
Taste: The first sweet malt. Then a clear, perfumed gum note is added. Wood, caramelized sugar, marzipan and again raspberry fruit aromas. The palette of flavors is salty sparkling underlaid.
Finish: Medium-long, dry fruity (again raspberry), slightly salty, and the oak wood sets through stronger.
