  1. TsiAI scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Smell: mineral salt, milk salt soda, light sea water, chamomile, white shells, roasted almonds, honey rose water, lemon zest, diluted fruit juice, very refreshing. 87/100
Taste: There are fresh yellow peaches, with obvious saltiness and a particularly strong aroma, like the aroma that appears in some strong-flavor liquors. Mineral, bitter, squeezed oil from citrus peel, melon, ginger, pepper, oak. Body: oily and light. Ending notes: medium, nuts, orange peel, rocks, grains
    Overall: 87/100

The body feels like it has lost the spirit of 10 years, and the overall flavor is not as good as the 100 proof before and after.
    • Nose
Very bourbon, similar to a mixture of the next version of 100 Proof and 14Bourbon Wood. Beach, fresh, salt, a little sodium glutamate, bacon. There is a slight fruity taste, lemon, citrus, grass, sweet, honey, coconut milk, weak peat, roasted almonds.
    • Taste
Salt water full of fat, candles, bitterness of nuts, citrus peel oil, little cantaloupe, salty cheese, coconut milk, bitterness overwhelming sugar, peat, pepper, black chocolate, fennel, a little woody feel of high age.

Better, better fat, normal sweetness, slightly sour, no astringency, bitterness, no pungency, no alcohol.
    • Finish
Long-term, table salt, black chocolate, melon seed shell, calcium carbonate, charcoal fire, the bitterness of high age.

A lot of glue in the nose, but also balanced tropical fruits with caramel. The alcohol is hardly noticeable, I would have guessed blindly at 46%!
Delicious melon aromas in the mouth, everything remains subtle, only the finish then flattens out a bit quickly.
In any case, interestingly different from the current 12 cask strength versions!

First comes the peat followed by smoke and then a blast of fruit and citrus oil.
    • Taste
      84 84
Dominant peat when this hits the palate. After a few minutes and the phenols dissipate, stone fruit, cherry and peppercorn spice round things out.
    • Finish
      81 81
The finish is long and complex. Lots of wet oak and some smoke. Water really helps this one to balance out a bit.

(blind) Nose: concentrated, ripe fruit, dried fruits

Palate: ripe exotic fruits, some peat, very very good!

Not the sexiest profile but here it works well. I'll see that on the side of Springbank and assimilated
    • Nose
      Straight, lemony and tense.
    • Taste
In line. More wax, paraffin. Citrus fruits are present and the mineral side too.
    • Finish
Quite long, evanescent, peppery and very light smoke. Softer too.

  8. ManoCornuta scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Nose: Caramel, biscuity, malty, strawberry jam, toasted walnut, motor oil, honey

Palate: honey, caramel, tofee, cooked yellow fruits, cooked apple, light camphor, spices ..

Finale honey, ripe fruits, spices, cooked apple, figs, milk chocolate

    89/100
Pretty whisky, quite classic profile but well done

It's a bit less fruity and creamy than the previous edition 10yo 100proof with the beige label. Still a typical and good Springbank.
    • Nose
Green fruits, little peat and smoke, leathery, salty, seabreeze
    • Taste
Punchy, oily, citrusy, little woody, subtle sweetness
    • Finish
      Long and burning

Sadly discontinued bottling (I prefer this over the 12 YO CS). Clean Springbank with lot of character and power. This was one of the first malts that got me into the malt universe.

I have experimented with this bottling in both food and blends and I can recommend trying to pour a dram in the evening and let it stay in the glass until the morning of the next day (without drinking it ;) ) This will make some of the alcohol evaporate, generate the highland mist and change the profile of the dram.

N: salty, very strong, caramel, honey, (typical Springbank) glue and some fruit - orange and apricot
T: leather, some syrup, breakfast cereals and dry
F: meat, wood, dry and spicy

Meat with raisins maybe even mushrooms. Anyway a full on whisky. Just great. This one has the Springbak touch that I seem to like(love).
