    Oloroso sherry
Stinging salty-spicy! Leather, orange peel, plums and a sweet spice, accompanied by notes of rope, dinghy and maritime echoes. Dry smoke and a little bit of wood are good for the nose.
Spicy, salty and fiery in the taste. More creamy than its predecessor: chocolate, mocha, liquorice, with paprika, nutmeg, herbs and more intensive wood.
Long - dark notes and spicy. Mocha, chocolate, liquorice, espresso, dry wood and underground dull and dark fruity. Very beautiful.
Basically the two. Unfortunately, the nice finish is not enough for the overall victory here.

Well... Do you even hand-fill bro? If you need to go the distillery for this, this dram simply confirms that it's a trip worth taking.
    • Nose
      92 92
The nose is massive Sherry, and flowing peat embers. Mineral-y rich Sherry cake and intense barbecue sauce. Red berries and spent tea leaves, and mint.
    • Taste
      94 94
The palate is huge. Sherry dominates and smoky peat holds the line. Loads of rich grilled red fruits. Charred strawberry and smoked porridge. As it opens the palate widens more with the Bowmore malt returning. Sweet porridge, hefty smoke and whetstone. Limestone, brine and a few more maritime notes. The mint shows up towards the end as it rolls into he finish, rich mint tea notes.
    • Finish
      91 91
The finish is to be expected, massive and rolling. Smoke rolls back and forth with the mineral shore notes and deep in the background are some more vanilla creme. The oak spice is very muted but that eucalyptus/mint shows up in the background again.

Does it get any better? What a great whisky, deep dark sherry, over 16 years, perfectly peated, at cask strength makes the best balance!

Only regret is that I did only filled one bottle. Fantastic combination of first fill sherry butt and smokiness!

As close to perfection as you can get. The very best whisky I have tasted.

For me, one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to try. The combination of peat, smoke, sherry, salty and earthy notes makes it close to perfection. Wish I had bought five bottles.

    • Nose
Starts tight, chocolaty, syrupy and slightly smoky. Gradually unfolds a beautiful peat note, in addition to toasted aromas and prunes. Total tincture-like and slightly medicated. Valerian, wet leather and ropes. With water: becomes even more syrupy and concentrated. Plum sauce, chocolate, coffee, salt and light smoke. Top!
    • Taste
Violent, peaty, medical florality, valerian, resin and increasing smoke. Dark chocolate, plum sauce, salt and tobacco. With water: beautifully put together. Coffee, dark chocolate, peat, valerian tincture, salt, hints of passion fruit, prunes and plum wine.
    • Finish
Long, clear, beautiful peat in addition to valerian, lavender and prunes.

Nose: Brine , a lot of ash , peat and BBQ sauce . peat reek and hints of sweet desert wine . meaty , earthy and sooty with a certain medicinal quality to it.

Palate: Wham! Big ashy palate with a lot of wood smoke, ash, and peat, very sweet with a lot of sherry / wine influence, marinated meat kind of, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, pepper, and espresso.

finish: Sweet marinated meat, ash, peat, wood smoke.

In short: Lovely. lovely. lovely. A real shame I dont have a bottle. I’ve seen them going on sale for around 180 quid today on Scotch Whisky Auctions. Not sure if it’s worth that, but it’s brilliant.
