A board - beautiful 70s style - delicious and very productive, he is so cultivated - masterpiece
    • Nose
Delicious salted caramel and finely minced smoke, very tender notes of sulfur appearing here in a slightly sweaty garlic note, sweetened black tea, geranium leaves, dried flowers, beeswax, very ripe citrus notes, citron, citrus oil, apple compote, plus unspecific fruity sweetness Honey and acid dance - oak with caramelized sugar, a hint of licorice
    • Taste
sparkling spicy, flowers, grasses, tea, oak, tobacco, leather - here comes the sherry barrel through without directly to show - beautiful complex sweetness in constant interaction with oak and flowers, cooling mint, very intense and very elegant, soft, round
    • Finish
delicate bitterness, again flowers, wax, tea, peppery tobacco and fine complex citrus notes - the finish is really very long and nicely balanced - clear Chilicatch

very long and strong, here you can feel malt and peat really
again liquorice, tobacco with fine sweetness
a great finish that seems to tell old stories, very exciting

    • Nose
Peat smoke and salty hay, some caramel and citrus, then herbs,
more smoke and grasses, even vanilla and again clear citrus
    • Taste
very oily and smooth on the tongue,
some moldy soil, then oily sweetness with peat
liquorice and coffee chocolate on the back,
      the sweetness now superficial
Clear mint, lemon balm slightly dry
      then peat and malt
    • Finish
very long and strong, here you can feel malt and peat really
again liquorice, tobacco with fine sweetness
a great finish that seems to tell old stories, very exciting

    nose:
salted and iodized length, good spices on white pepper, vanilla, a little citrus in syrup, with liquid and sweet caramel,
    both wet and dirty algae
    raisins, some dust sucked
dry peat which actually gives more smoke
    mouth:
dry and fragrant herbs, crushed almonds, strong pepper, smoke, almond shell kernels, bitterness all at once, then glue, varnish and baked apple-pear; the wood is remarkable, wax and varnish again, a little mushroom or humus occurs there, and the fine and dry peat again, bordering on liquorice, which remains good on a smoky, almost bacon-like sensation
    final:
peppery, salty, vanilla which returns in concentrate and the smoke still on woody shavings.
    Long and enduring.

  4. Calmar scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Very vigorous and powerful molt, all standard Talisker derivatives, plus sweet tropical motifs and lemonade festive mood.
    • Nose
Open, dry, ash, mineral notes - stone crumb, masonry mortar; solvent, a little carpentry workshop, leather goods, fresh sawn board, lemon zest, raw grated grain, boiled vegetables, weak fruit and lemonade shades.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, oak, lemon peel, powerful pepper wave, leather goods, sweet creamy caramel notes, cocoa, some nuts, light shades of tropical fruits, salt.
    • Finish
Spicy, invigorating, ash, sweet lemon-tropical notes, grain, a little pepper, oak, cocoa, creamy shades.

Be sure to breathe long enough. Then he can play his class.
    • Nose
Herbs in the nose. Creamy, a breeze of sea air. In the background fermented fruits. The smoke is practically present, has already broken down into more complex herbs. Alcohol discreetly noticeable.
    • Taste
Amazingly soft and yet powerful. Typically maritime. Here are a little less herbs for a little more smoking, but still discreet.
    • Finish
The finish is medium to long. Here again more herbs is sweet. It remains a little smoke. The oak of the barrel push through again and fills the mouth.

This is a beautiful Talisker from the late seventies. It tastes so deep and rich! The fresh 'green' notes like cucumber, mint leaves and melons surpised me a bit at first, but they combine great with the maritime, peppery Talisker DNA and the sweeter fruits.
    • Nose
      90 90
Mild and surpisingly fresh peat smoke. Some hay, grass and vegetal notes(cauliflower?) are followed by fresh notes of cucumber, coconut biscuits, cardamom, vanilla, citrus fruits and melon. Chocolate, figs and polished antique furniture represent the sherry influence, while there's some pepper and sea spray too.
    • Taste
      94 94
It's incredibly thick and juicy. Same fresh and mild peat as the nose, followed by the classic Talisker chili catch and green bell peppers. The development goes on with sweet passion fruits and honey melon, but also cucumber, apples and fresh mint leaves. Some liquorice root and an increasing maritime saltiness. Just georgeous!
    • Finish
      91 91
Rolling waves of medium peat go with pineapple, juicy citrus fruits, apples and melons. A maritime saltiness lingers.

    God it's good
    • Nose
spicy, maritime, iodized. Uh-ooooh! OK. loose: wax / burnt candle, incense, dust, straw, ginger, angelica, smoke, light dry peat, mineral, a metallic touch .... etc, etc., etc. for short, I would say complex? Alcohol is superbly integrated. The balance? Sensational.
    • Taste
The mouth is just extraordinary and ardently expresses the elements present in the nose with a bonus nuclear explosion of pepper notes. There follows an alternation of moments, sometimes smoked, sometimes peaty and then iodized with malty / waxed / vanilla lulls. It's fine, elegant and especially very racy.
    • Finish
The development extends to infinity wavelets of spicy and malted returns. Fruit and sap close the event with always this smoke in the background.

  12. Bishlouk scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Nose: Strong powerful, maritime, peppered. Candle, raisin, dust, and dry spices. Mouth: Bam! Direct chills, thrills. Peppery spices, salty / spicy explosion. Dry apricot syrup, waxy traces. Finale: Superb length. Freshness mentholée that comes back in the nose. The pepper continues. Verdict: Superb complexity. Superb everything. Festival of sensations. 93/100 . (Note made in the context of a face to face of all Talisker 25y in barrel.)

  13. Dede scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

A very good Talisker not too tired by his 25 years spent in cask. Still a lot of power, which does not exclude a certain subtlety.
    • Nose
Very powerful, maritime (iodine) and smoked with touches of antiseptic. The peppery notes typical of Talisker are also present, as well as the heady and characteristic odor of buffalo grass (Zubrowka vodka). Smoother fragrances are nevertheless noticeable behind this show of strength and grow on aeration, on fresh fruits (green apples). Water enhances this feeling of fruity freshness.
    • Taste
The palate is powerful, peppery and salty, with a slight vegetable bitterness. It is more mineral with water, and gains in drought and smoke.
    • Finish
Long and hot, particularly intense, it develops on green apple and grapefruit.

A little too saline bite between the mouth and the finish for me to go further but delicious in its style.
    • Nose
Nose on a well iodized ash. Cook with pepper and mustard. Vanilla and lemony but also some dried figs.
    • Taste
Powerful but excellent palate. Lemons and mandarins mixed with pineapple and smoked melons. The juice was then exposed to iodine bursts near the ocean. Apricot honey.
    • Finish
Final on orange, finely bitter ash dust.

The aroma is intense, iodine. Sweet, honey-citrus notes, grape juice, an abundance of salt and oak. Later, the spice appears.
The taste is rich, sweet orange, straight honey, light pepper, little peat, enough oak.
Oak-fruity-honey aftertaste. A pinch of salt and pepper.

    25yo Talisker - 2004 vs. 2006 vs. 2008.

2004: Fresh, fruity, minty, clear, cold and wild - tundra, spray, star fruit, bergamot. With water, then first a torrent of bitumen, heavy smoke remains but the fruits come back.

2006: Narrower than the other two, less fruit, less freshness, less sherry, instead oatmeal, warm smoke, spray, ... Worthy talisker in the middle of the three. Never ending finish.

2008: Warmer, salty, more sherry, warmer, creaky smoke. More salty tang, is dangerously close to the 15yo special release. Its fresher side comes out later, less directly than the 2004 one.

Current Tali 10: The other day he still had the DNA, but in this context young pear in particular jumps into the nose, in terms of taste then OK

    1970`s aged peat, Islay v Islands v Campbeltown v Highlands H2H
This was a very enjoyable H2H of some of the best peated whisky there is, the initial plan was to do a top 10 of aged 1970`s vintage heavily peated whisky but it ended up being 11 as this was the only opportunity to test the 1975 Samaroli Geerie against the 1967 Douglas Laing Geerie.
These 2 whiskies from this old Highland distillery I know from previous tastings are pretty incredible to be honest.

The trademark pepper and peat Talisker combo is here on the nose and I swear there is a white wine note in the mix somewhere?
The peat and pepper are obviously there but it is really nice, not overpowering in any way.
The peat is really nice, some lemon possibly some unripe pear and the finish is top notch.
Water is not really needed, the lemon and cream note on the finish is like whisky poetry, really nice stuff.

If the dominant oak were not, it would be much more balanced and pleasant.
    • Nose
Citrus fruits, oranges, grapes, maritime, salty, oak is very strong, light smoke is visible far away
    • Taste
The citrus fruits stay. Likewise the maritime salty notes. There is also a nice pepperiness. Possibly. some ginger. And then the oak goes through and superimposes everything.
    • Finish
The finish is at the beginning only oak. Behind it will be more comfortable again. The smokes are more apparent. He keeps himself relatively long.

Just opened my bottle (05251) as this is shared with friends in the Cutty Forum. Lovely old talisker, it has been a while that I have smelled and tasted this typical style of good old talisker. The peppery note is present in an overall very well rounded malt. This note is something I do not really find in newer bottlings.
A great experience, and it reminds me of tasting Taliskers many years ago. Just the good old stuff...

Great, a Talisker because I have to ...
    • Nose
Faint smoke and a rather clear caramel note. A nice fruity and sweet aroma of ripe grapes coated with liquid chocolate. Oak spice with leather and maritime notes like salt, straw and a slight earthiness. A touch of vanilla comes through too.
    • Taste
Sweet with beautiful oak and also salty to the same. Oily, spicy and fruity, with hints of vanilla and light smoke. A bit bitter, almonds I would say.
    • Finish
The finish is awesome !!! Long, salty, sweet, old leather, dark chocolate and even more salt. Great...

    • Taste
A delicate sherry and praline impression, a creamy texture, on dried fruits, including nuts, and candied citrus fruits.
      Delicate saline touch

Yes, that is the stuff I´m dreaming of at night!
    • Nose
Light peat, very little alcohol considering the 57.8%vol. Lots of vanilla, caramel, oak. Very complex, yet mild and smooth. With some water there is fresh fruit, but not that much. More peat. Some salt.
    • Taste
Starts kinda sweet and tingly. Lots of oak and therefore some bitterness. Very spicy, but missing the typical Talisker chili-catch. Yet powerful, even with some water.
    • Finish
Long finish, just a little dry. Old leather and roasted coffee beans.

    Re-tasted in the frame of a vertical 18/25 (x2) / 30y.

Logically very close to the batch 2006. On the nose citrus fruits are less present, leaving more room for iodized smoke. I also feel tree sap. The mouth is, surprisingly, softer than the 2006 batch despite the higher alcohol content; hyper fine, super complex, ultra subtle. Spices, smoke, leather, moss, sea water, cooked green and yellow fruits; a mix of a lot of stuff coming and going on a wave. The final is not left at the level of complexity; tobacco, white pepper, dry foam, iodine,
etc ... without the bitterness of the batch 2006. Rhaaaaa that it is good!

  55. icon_of_sin scored this whisky 92 points Member Senior

Can only agree with the previous speakers. More unbalanced than the other vintages with only a few maritime notes. Nevertheless, in terms of quality and goodness beyond doubt.
    • Nose
Leather armchair, caramel, smoke, pepper, dark fruit, oak, figs. After a short while the caramel becomes clearer and creamier. Apple pie with cream.
Overall, a bit more subdued and unbalanced than the 2006 and 2008er.
    • Taste
Even after 25 years still insanely intense, partly also spicy / sharp start with a lot of smoke and pepper. After the sharpness oak and leather.
    • Finish
Very intense with lots of smoke and pepper. Then a brief flickering of maritime notes but quickly disappear again and makes the oak in the form of dark chocolate place. Very warm with a long-lasting leather touch on the palate.

    • Nose
A very light peat and a little smoke. A lot of greed emanates from this nose: madeleine with orange blossom mainly.
    • Taste
Very nice, rich and well balanced. Attack rather shy with always a hint of peat. In the middle of the mouth, the fruit cake side explodes. We have a sherry / peaty seaside side frankly nice. Consistent texture.
    • Finish
A final that is not spectacular, in the extension of the mouth. A taste of bacon remains in the mouth.

This is the best Talisker I have had featuring rich and long aftertaste. It`s highly recommended if you appreciate talisker notes

Surprisingly fruity nose, slightly dry. Honey sweet and salty, a wonderful combination. Warming in the long finish and a bit dry and bitter.

    • Nose
At the first contact it seems spirit. After just a few second you´ll find rich sweetness, fruits, strong influence of sherry, it reminds me of old sherry cask Laphroaig or Port Ellen. Also you will find salt, dry hay, light sweet smoke, dried tobacco, lots of sweet grapes and prune in chocolate. Peat is very symbolic and hided in the background. Nose is superb!
    • Taste
It starts with a lot of salt, then it develops towards pepper and spiciness, some dryness, oak, tobacco, smoke, burned wood and some bitterness. You´ll find some fruits as well. Finally hints of almonds and vanilla.
    • Finish
Medium long filled with tobacco, smoke, salt and pepper.

A mature Talisker, who brings a ton of strength for his age and is a good, if not quite cheap, companion on cold winter days.
    • Nose
distinctly maritime (the 25yo tali's are among the only 6,000 casks stored on the Isle of Skye), dry soil, medium smoky, subtle hints of vanilla, slightly herbaceous, overall pretty fresh. At times, I can also smell the scent of ripe and pressed grapes.
    • Taste
Wow, what was missing in the nose, in order to pick top marks, now comes out on the palate. Quite soft in consistency, but that's deceptive, because of course the well-known and almost unnecessary chilli catch comes through, though of course the right long storage makes it a bit milder than the 10yo, a freshly lit fire Spreading in the mouth, the already present in the nose soil is also back in the boat, pure power that can tolerate quite a few drops of water to the binding
    • Finish
The fire in the throat does not want to go out.

Superb nose, almost perfect. But the taste and finish is good, but not as the nose. Don't take to much water, just a couple of drops.
    • Nose
Neat: a little spirity, but loads of sherry, and fruits, like mellon and pineapple. With water: you can feel a little sherry flavors, but thats it...
    • Taste
Neat: malty and woody, mmmm. Almonds in the end. And traces of sherry.. With water: Smooth, just smooth. And the vanilla comes forward..
    • Finish
Neat: Mediumlong finish, smooth finish and with a peppery end, just as I like it to be... With water: Its to short now, but smooth...
