I blind-tasted Lagavulin Feis Ile 2013, 2014 and 2015 in a session. Feis Ile 2013 was the fruitiest among the three. Lightly smokey, full of green fruits and offers you an experience of being in sea fog.

Creamy and freshly fruity, much less smokey than Feis Ile 2014 and 2015. Vanilla, then honeydew became prominent, with mint added in seconds. Green apple with peel, a bit of vegetative peat. Mild mandarin orange without much citrus acid, especially the pith. Here came a wave of sea fog, as if you were in the middle it. Ash from burning hay and dried leaves with a touch of sweetness, maybe that's maple syrup. Asian pear with peel, subsequently the crispy pear flesh took over together with Indian jujubes. Towards the end, there was some soapy notes like shampoo. Cedar from the emptied glass.

Not so sweet peach and green grapes, got sweeter in a few seconds. Some grape seeds, hay, vanilla and very mild pepper. A bit of honey tea towards the end. Great taste, mellow and balanced, but certainly not eyebrow-raising.

A mild and quick citrus zest, followed by sweet wood like cinnamon. Grape skin and cherry skin, sweetness seemed to come from English pear. Light ash from cedar. You could feel more smokiness when you exhaled.

    Bottle 1591.
Very good, austere, quite disjointed. The ventilation will do him good I think.
    • Nose
      89 89
A very typical nose, very dirty.
      Gros Embrun and saline atmosphere.
Oyster. Then tertiary on the undergrowth. Burnt wood.
      Large peat, gunpowder.
      Medicinal, iodine, bandage.
    • Taste
      88 88
In the mouth we are really on oily, wet peat. Cold ash, smoke. It's big and dirty. A little humidity.
      Dust, engine oil.
Lemon confit, behind compared to medicinal.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long finish on candied citrus fruits. Cold ash, barbecue, bandage. Pepper. Gunpowder.

A rounded, elegant mid-age lagavulin. Some new-style sherry notes are obvious.

    • Nose
Wow, super tasty, typical Laga character, but much rounder than the already good standard. Alcohol really not noticeable at all. Iodine, peat smoke, subtle mild sweetness. Hot. The best laga I've had so far smells wonderful.
    • Taste
Also cool, super balanced like the nose and then in the middle part great creaminess, peat smoke and campfire in the finish. Approach could be stronger, but rarely had such a great change in the middle part.
    • Finish
      Nice horny part

Very enjoyable Lagavulin. Comparable to the "Lagavulin 1995 Friends of the Classic Malts" but older and rounder. A great chocolate bacon combination is going on here.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10
    • Nose
Burned iron and bonfire smoke. Smoked meat. Cinnamon, minerals, earth, ashes and sherry, some nuts and chocolate.
    • Taste
Smoke. Smoked meat (covered with a sweet honey mustard sauce and smoked over a bonfire) . Minerals and earth again. Salty.
    • Finish
Long. Smoke. Dark chocolate and bacon.
