Found this at the bottom of my box with samples. Apparently overlooked when tasting the other Tony Koehl bottlings, but I didn't really miss out on it. The nose is pretty interesting, the taste is ok and the finish leaves a lot to be desired. Good enough on its own merits, but definitely the least of the series.
    • Nose
      88 88
Light and fruity: mild peach, sour apple, banana (one of the few times I can actually pick this up in a whisky), lemonzest, vanilla, some grainy biscuits and a green note (like tomato plants inside a greenhouse). All quite subtle, but also quite nice.
    • Taste
      86 86
Remains light, albeit a bit more distinctly alcoholic. Vanilla, still some peach and apple, a little bitter citrus, also dusty and peppery wood notes.
    • Finish
      83 83
Short: mild vanilla, vague fruitiness and then some dusty wood and flattening bitterness. Just a bit underwhelming.

  2. St. Pauli scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

If you are looking for a nice and fruity Speysider, this is your pick!
    • Nose
Very fruity, of different kinds: apples, peaches, pineapples. Also some eucalyptus and vanilla.
    • Taste
Full-bodied and sweet, on the fruit, herbs and the barley
    • Finish
Remains full and coating, and lasts for ages!

The aromas are easily the best part of this more than decent whisky that can be nosed for hours. The taste and especially the short finish can't keep up with the lovely smells coming from this Imperial.
    • Nose
First a bit sour and vinegary, but only for about fifteen seconds. So if you have a little bit more patience than I do, you can skip that part of the nose. It quickly becomes a very fruity dram: ripe bananas, apple, mango, lemon confit and grapefruit, which adds a nice bitterness. There are some lighter grassy notes, but they are dominated by the fruit.
    • Taste
A bit more spicy and woody (tree bark) and less fruity than I expected. There is coconut and apple here, but also bread dough and a sweet sugary flavour.
    • Finish
Wood spices, some fruit but nothing really distinct. Fairly short.

  4. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Lime wine gums, vanilla, apple juice, honey, caramel, apricot, almond and brown sugar. Quite creamy.
    • Taste
Citrus, vanilla, caramel shortbread and apple.
    • Finish
Vanilla, caramel, lime, green apple, honey, melon and a little malt.

  5. Erik Elixir did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The 2nd bottling in the Tony Koehl range from David Stirk.
Tasting note: `Icing sugar on apple crumble`.
