[March, 2018]  Another quick review of a sample.  The colour is russetmuscat and the texture shows many small tears that consolidate to a sticky ring and very late some fat tears with slow legs pop up.  The nose is rich on overripe fruits, barley sugars, some herbs and wooden aromas.  It arrives a little hot and peppery in the mouth but nicely coats it with a minor adstringent feeling at the end.  The taste is bold but not overly complex as is the finish.  It is again a little adstringent from tannins at the end but this is bearable.  Water improves and smoothes this whisky - I like it best when reduced with a fair share...

This truly is a bold dram with impressive flavours and if you like these particular flavours then you will adore this whisky.  Unfortunately I am not a fan of this profile but still it is an easy drinkable and memorable dram...

    • Nose
Already after pouring the whole room is flooded with the flavors - that is striking even my otherwise not whisky-affine woman on positive. What a present whisky! Candied oranges that water your mouth, juicy sweet tangerines, strawberry puree with vanilla sugar and soft prunes are the first impressions that flow towards me. This malty dark Demerara sugar. Sweet pipe tobacco rises from the glass, I see my father puffing and Rauchkringel blowing sitting on the sofa. The lump of a greasy old leather jacket and old musty oak wood adds beautiful dry spicy accents to the smell.
    • Taste
In the mouth a nice trio of warmth, dry oak and fruity honey sweetness. Then again the juicy oranges and tangerines, this time accompanied with cloves and cinnamon sticks. Under the mighty sweetness lurks but a strong tart oak, it tingles and goes off right on the tongue. The sherry-typical prunes and raisins are also very present. And then the strong European oak barrels become more and more dominant. Herb and powerful, they provide a moist musty dryness and a light fur on the tongue, like the tannins of a really dry red wine.
    • Finish
The medium-length and sherry typical finish is warm and is determined by beautiful spices such as cinnamon and cloves. Sweet prunes, dark cane sugar and the strong oak barrels provide more spice.

This was my first Glen Elgin, a slightly different, interesting sherry whisky. Delicious, especially the reminiscent of jam bitter orange I liked it. Water does not make the whisky any better, but the alcohol is not too hot. That's a pity. I have 86 points.
    • Nose
sweet raisins, caramel, orange peel and a little mint, the alcohol stings slightly in the nose. Little changes with water.
    • Taste
strong onset, sweet orange with white pepper, slightly astringent, after a moment, the sharpness goes back and becomes molten chocolate. The oak is rather restrained. Water worsens the mouthfeel and robs the whisky of the beautiful oily mouthfeel. For this one recognizes clearly bitter oranges.
    • Finish
dry sherry, now the oak beats, bitterness remains on the palate, burnt brown sugar with the shell of bitter Seville oranges.

Glen Elgin tends to do sherry cask really well. Let's see how this fare.

High quality. Clean sherry. A bit of cola -- grape. Also, somewhat earthy and somewhat nutty, which, in my book, is very tasty in a sherry cask.

Can taste the strong ABV. Very slight rubber, but not egregious at all. Good quality sherry casks, but unidimensional. Not too much tertiary flavors to be found.
    • Finish
      87 87
A good length, but there is a bit of oaky bitterness towards the very end. Again, not very complex.

a concentrate that fool 16 years on the label, he looks so much older and mature but still very strong and class, great part, my first Elgin with Sherry - memorable.
    • Nose
sweet and tart fruity sherry nose with lots of oak and spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, oiled grated tropical wood, fresh twigs from which one pulls the bark, tree of life, a touch of resin, behind it fresh limes, oranges, very juicy, orange oil from peel, something Wax, sweet tobacco with vanilla, lilac blossoms, some glue - very intense nose, delicate and complex
    • Taste
intense sherry palate, orange, orange oil, ginger, plum jam, oak and Christmas spices with light chilli, cocoa, oak, furniture polish, palm wax shoe cream, beeswax candle, leather, pine cones, sandalwood, everything connected, everything is very lively and vibrant
    • Finish
very dry - cocoa, fruit and tobacco ... in the finish especially orange and dates in Madeira .. very long and spicy ...
