Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1999 MoS

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.23 points

  1. LeChiffre scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Very intense and full-bodied malt, the alcohol is amazingly integrated. The malt has a distinctive and bitter oak as a counterpoint to the intense fruity sweetness, which you have to like. A very nice sherry malt, but you have to feel like it because of the intensity. Reminds of the clearly pronounced bitter-tart and oak and dryness from my memory a little of the dark 20y single barrel WID 124262.
    • Nose
      91 91
sweet dark fruits; Blackberries; dark cherries; Plums; Raisins; Caramel; noticeable wood notes in the background; delicate notes of leather and tobacco; some furniture polish
      - Beautiful, intense and oily, dark-fruity nose with beautiful woody notes as a counterpoint. I can smell it forever
    • Taste
      92 92
powerful, voluminous, sweet and spicy start; intense sweet dark fruits again; Blackberries; Plums; Raisins; some orange; dark chocolate; Espresso; dry oak cupboard wall
    • Finish
      90 90
dry; Dried fruits; Espresso; Dark chocolate; pleasantly bitter tart oak (noticeable tannins)

  3. dRambo scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

harmonious - full-bodied - nice round but still powerful, very sweet - the bitter substances are at the limit of what I find delicious
    • Nose
Very sweet berry cocktail, caramel, toffee, vanilla, unusually oily nose for a sherry barrel, with wax, shoe polish, furniture polish, nutmeg, tree bark
    • Taste
Blackberry, black currants, orange, blueberries, nutmeg, soy sauce, oak cabinet wall, fresh delicate fruity acid, dry oak, damp cellar muff, strong tingling red wine note
    • Finish
very dry, slightly bitter, chocolaty with high cocoa content, espresso, mint, walnut shells

  4. Bona scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

For me, the oak is too heavy. 14y old but oak and mildew of 30y in the mouth. The nose is great, the finish is beautiful, in between a harsh Glengoyne ride you hardly recognize. Oak and sherry dominate. For me about 85P.

    Exactly my malt. 91 points
    • Nose
A mix of dark berries and wild geese herbs. Brommbergs, plums and sulfurized raisins are on the very forefront of flavor. Class first nose. Black Forest cake, figs and hints of leather and sweet tobacco. No noticeable alcohol. Nutmeg and sweet oak underlined the fruit composition.
    • Taste
The herbs gently dry the mouth. Plums and lightly distilled raisins are distributed. Light pleasant bitterness with strong espresso and a good bit of bittersweet chocolate. For the alcohol content incredibly mild.
    • Finish
Lightly dries with chocolate, a decent portion of oak and a good standing espresso. Keeps great. Some malt.

  7. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Tasted head-to-head with cask 13059. This one is darker, treaclier and heavier. Though (or probably because) the other one is a bit more subtle, I have a slight preference for this one.
    • Nose
Prune, mocha, dark cherry, raisin, raspberry, cinnamon, brown sugar, coffee, orange and clove. The sherry has a slight tendency towards cognac.
    • Taste
Raisin, prune, cinnamon, pepper, mocha, orange, cranberry, dark chocolate, brown sugar and clove.
    • Finish
Espresso, raisin, mocha, dark chocolate, liquorice and date. Behind the heavy dark notes also a little marshmallow, but just a little.

  8. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

N: sherry, fudge, gravy, orange and some glue
T: dried fruits, some wood smoke, raisins, milk chocolate and sal ammoniac
F: bitter fruits - grape fruits, drying and liquorice (zoethout)

  9. aby scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

nose: heavy sherry, zeeuwse babbelaars taste: very dry sherry, lots of tannin, bay leaves overall: very nice, delicious combination with salmon / smoked duck breast
tasted with whisky club spakenburg, and for me the surprise of the evening 90p
