    - good 16 single malt at a fair price
    - not only fruity and mild, but also with a little pep in the
    background
    • Nose
soft, aromatic, fruity sherry smell, fresh fruit, apples, pears
    • Taste
Mild, subtle, sweet approach, increasing development on the palate, after the fruit aroma there is clearly spice and oak, leather
    • Finish
      soft, medium-length finish;
long fruity aftertaste with plenty of spice

Light and understated, this whisky invites you to sip again and again without being persistent, which is why it is not really convincing. Drinkable in any case, but there is certainly more to this distillery.
    • Nose
Light and fruity, tangerine at the beginning, lemon is also present, apples join them, the hint of a flower meadow in summer, chopped almonds, toasted oak, a hint of marzipan, Christmas stollen without raisins, a pack of nut muesli is freshly opened
    • Taste
Sweet malt hits the palate, floury apples, toffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, tangerines, caramelized almonds, the barley becomes clearer, then the oak aromas develop, but rather conservative and slightly bitter
    • Finish
Rather short, caramel, dark milk chocolate, clearly perceptible oak, but this is rather less aromatic, a few pieces of black pepper, herbaceous root vegetables, a strangely young mineral note remains with a little vanilla

The woodland is a village. A very sagged molt, in which under the tree everything that is good is stretched, which could stretch it to a high level.
    • Nose
Sherry-dried fruit. Lacquered parquet, sherry, dried fruits dominated in dried apricots, light spirituality, wet wood, red apples.
    • Taste
Bitter-tart, woody. A tart varnished tree, a handful of dried fruits, caramel, citrus candies, malt, and spicy herbs.
    • Finish
Bittersweet, astringent. A piece of wood, black pepper, spicy herbs, mead, a decoction of herbs, some hints of strawberry jam.

He goes, but does not have to.
    • Nose
Light Sherrynote, a bit sprightly, although only 40%. But there are also notes of oak, plums, furry sloes.
    • Taste
The taste is spicy, mild, woody. The sherry is gone. There remains a diluted, alcoholic taste.

[April, 2015]  Finally I emptied a bottle that I bought for 88 Euro in December, 2014.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 85.  My notes state an easy to drink but otherwise unspectacular dram.

N- Fresh and bright with good complexity and layers. Honey and citric follow by cocoa, then interesting banana and Indian spices emerge, sort of masala, curry powder and sticky caramel overtones.

P- Lemon, processed fragrant strawberries candy, fruits peel with earthy pepper.

F- Medium-long, sour and bitterness of kernel, ripe fruits, tamarind, decent. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Decent, yes. A decent 16-year-old dram from an overlooked distillery. But it's far from rocking my boat, and I wouldn't have bought it myself (got it as a gift). I think Macduff could do much better if they presented their malt more naturally and at 46% Vol.
Furthermore I think there are better options, some of them for less money, starting with Glenfiddich 15yo Solera Vat, An Cnoc 16yo and Tomatin 15yo, not to mention many IB options.

Update: This has opened up quite a bit since my review. Better on both the nose and the palate, with caraway, more oranges and pinesap. It's still not the greatest Speysider, but very pleasant nonetheless. 2 points up.
    • Nose
A wave of sherry comes first: Dark cocoa and an intense note of candied orange zest like you get in Cointreau (even a bit artificially orange-y). After a while the sherry almost disappears and I get sweet and sour apples, soft curry powder, a bit of menthol and malt. I do like the nose, it works, even if the sherry/orange aroma is not really well integrated.
    • Taste
Bittersweet, soft attack, getting sourer and more pungent. The apples are sweeter and combined with bitter wood spice, heather and bittersweet walnut liqueur. I think in relation to the delicacy of the distillate the oaky bitterness is a bit too dominant. The development is not really top notch as well: the malt gets a bit rough on the back of the palate despite its low strength. It's okay-ish, but the nose was much more promising.
    • Finish
Medium to short, on malt and apple compote with a drop of rum. A bit disappointing in fact.
