Tasting Note 7. Jan. 2014 from Serge / Whiskyfun

    Laphroaig 12 yo 2000/2013 (51.7%, The Perfect
    Dram, refill sherry)

it's a seawatery and camphory one, it seems. So camphor and eucalyptus (that
would be Vicks', wouldn't it) and quite some menthol, with a mild smoke, then
some liquorice and touches of tinned pineapples that remind me of the old 10 CS.
Keeps developing for a long time, this baby shouldn't be rushed. With water:
fab. Smoked passion fruits and mangos, enough said.

    Mouth (neat): lovely! Big
peat smoke, sweets and jellybeans, all flavoured with tropical fruits, and then
a huge saltiness again. There's this peat/tropical fruits combo that used to
work so well in much older Laphroaigs. Hurray! With water: grapefruits and
citrons are coming out, together with even more salt and a dry ashy side. Finish: long and sharp, chiselled, very ashy and smoky. And briny.

extremely great, give it a little time and it'll remind you of the best 10 yo
Cask Strength. Well done again Whisky Agency, really loved this one. SGP:557 - 91 points.

A rather extreme experience. Like previous notes said, it is best to let this one stay open for two to three weeks before making up your mind about it, because after the wait period, trying it neat is a much more rewarding experience than from a fresh bottle.

    Tasted with Laphroaig 16yo 1998 Signatory + TWE cask 700389 (91 pts.).
    • Nose
Charcoal, burning logs, something herbal (thyme? rosemary?). Graphite pens, and some youthful oak (freshly sawed logs). The refill sherry adds sweetness and leatheriness. Strong impressions of salted liquorice. With water: Slighly more sherry now, and more young oak.
    • Taste
A strong but well rounded body: Full, with a fair amount of coal, some salt, and savoriness. I'm reminded of Uigeadail except for this woodsmoke that's not very Ardbeg. It's surprisingly perfect neat, except for the slight numbing effect of the ABV. With water: Brutal. A fair amount of ammonium chloride, salt and spicy oak. A spry, vicious and punchy youngster.
    • Finish
Vinegar, woodsmoke soot, saltiness. Lasts long, with a slightly bitter end. With water it's heavier, fuller and more ashy.

I am confused about these low scores this is an excellent cask. Granted when I first opened the bottle it was very generic. Two weeks later I can hardly believe this is the same whisky. I am ordering another bottle.

This whisky really just needs some time in the glass to one up.
