The last dram from a bottle that has been open for well over a year. Time has done it good. I like it better than at first pour. Muted nose, fair body and a nice but too short nutty finish.
    • Nose
      76 76
      Grain, grass, cereal, lemon, pear.
All very light. Sweet and a little zesty.
Alc has become more integrated with time, hardly noticable now.
    • Taste
      77 77
      Neutral mothfeel.
      Sweet, glazed yellow fruit.
A little warmth, but extremely gentle.
      Traces of nuts.
    • Finish
      79 79
      Short of medium lenght.
Stays on the yellow fruit theme.
Dry walnuts at the very end.

    Glengoyne Aged 10 Years, 40%.

5cl miniature at home March 2022.

    Dark golden.

Aroma is mango on crispbread. Some green apple flesh. White bread, the sort with a thick salty crust. A touch rusty. Settles on being quite rusty. Hint of cola. After 15 minutes or so all I get is old oak.

Very easy on the palate up-front with more of that salt-crusted bread, salty water, the oak comes through as bread crusts. Despite the easy flavour it spikes at the mouth and the oesophagus a little more than it really should at the ABV, particularly on the swallow. The oak is ‘old’ tasting, musty and furry, suggesting refill casks and giving some bitter, charred, chilli-ish vibes to the finish. No bad casks, but no good casks either.

Very much a budget age statement whisky, produced to achieve a particular age statement rather than a particular flavour profile. It’s okay. 3.075/74

Back in Campbeltown, I get to meet up with the rest of the Swaggers at The Feathers. Whilst they tuck into the beer, I stick with the malt. Glengoyne 10yo seems a solid choice given the selection.

N&T: Light/easy/hands-off vibes. Pleasant, for sure.

    F: Dusty honeyed finish.

C: Last time I reviewed this, the average Whiskybase score was 80.14 from 205 votes. 132 votes later, the average score remains exactly the same [at time of writing]. That’s some indication of reliability/consistency. A dependable malt.

Honey, hazelnut and wood, this entry in the mouth is sweet and pleasant, a little shy, but well constructed. The fruits are welcoming, yellow plums, pineapple, apple, grapefruit. An astonishing mixture, which does not prevent the balance. In the mouth, it is spicy, paprika, curry, saffron. Rawhide. Grapes from Italy. Vanilla fillet. Light finish but quite long, mellow, on bananas, dried coconut. It is very smooth, refined, it is astonishing.

  15. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

He won't pick me up today. Too coarse, too inharmonious for a simple malt.
The second tasting brought a little improvement, the grades remain, today it looks a bit pleasing, but still quite unimportant.
    • Nose
In the nose it looks very young, mashy, out of round. A little vanilla, but nothing more. The nose catches, I just don't like the style that much.
    • Taste
In the mouth for 40% quite heavy, almost spicy from the alcohol, little aroma, some corn flakes and malt sweetness.
    • Finish
Somewhat sour in the finish, something green and bitter. More malty notes only over time.

  16. Archer scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Doesn't hurt, it's pretty easy to scoop off.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fresh and floral in the first contact with the nose, orange biscuits, malt, toffee, caramel, honey, vanilla. Sliced almonds, hazelnut brittle.
    • Taste
      82 82
Mild and dry, slightly creamy. Almonds, orange peel, lemon, marzipan bread. Goes clearly into the nutty corner. In spite of the only 40% he does not look too thin.
    • Finish
      81 81
Doesn't stay long and leaves a mixture of orange cookies and almond butter.

Good introduction to an evening or to prepare the taste buds for more complex ones.
Bought it based on Ralfy's rating - I wouldn't go that high, but a nice malt.
    • Nose
      82 82
When I opened the bottle, I only had an association with alcohol, completely removed.
After getting used to it, apple, toffee, grain, a dash of lemon and a nice sweetness come through.
In my opinion, a few drops of water do a lot.
    • Taste
      82 82
The apple can also be recognized in the taste.
The main taste for me is pudding with light notes of vanilla.
    • Finish
      80 80
In the finish, the pudding again with some oak notes. Short to medium length.

A good whisky at this price point.
    • Nose
Grains and breakfast cereals with a sour-ish veneer, but also some touches of honey and raw sugar. Finally some orchard fruits make an appearance also, mostly ripe red apple.
    • Taste
Quite creamy and relatively mouth-coating, especially at such a low abv. Lovely fruits (apple and pear), a hint of powdered sugar and definitely a decent maltiness.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and a touch of charred oak. Sultanas and honey also.

Maybe my batch is little different from the others downhere but I think this is a well deserving dram. It does what it should and in it’s price/quality range (entry level, core range OB) it is, at least for me, one of the better drams out there.
    • Nose
A very fresh, fruity nose. A little grassy as well. Sweet and accessible. There are bourbon as well as sherry cask influences. I notice a hint of european oak intensity in the sherry part of this whisky. It’s not a big part, but it’s there which is nice. (The higher the age, the bigger the percentage of European oak casks used, and from 21yo and up it’s 100% EU oak at GlenGoyne). Friendly thanks to the low abv by quite flavorful as well.
    • Taste
Thin body. But what can you expect with a 10yo at 40%. It’s sweet and sour. Fruits like pineapple, apple, pears. Slight herbal note.
    • Finish
The finish is actually quite impressive for what one can expect! Rather full bodied finish. Medium length. Spicy notes and some sherry cask influences. A little red fruits and a hint of sultana’s. Pleasant finish.

It’s neither a complex whisky, nor one to remember for years to come but it is good at what it does. Perfect to share at a family dinner, a night with friends or as a quick&easy dram.

Can’t say I’d had too much exposure to Glengoyne before visiting the distillery in 2017 [blog]. I know the distillery has many loyal fans, so I thought I’d revisit it.

For a 10s really a very stable and pleasant malt that just is not very flat like many, you can play his 20-30 seconds in the mouth with him without boredom.
    • Nose
Soft honey, green apple, some lemon, pear, grass, light cereals, shortbread, very light and sweetish, but not too boring, toffee, some foliage
    • Taste
Beautifully balanced, fresh red apple, caramelized (yellow) fruits, lychee, pear, some sweet malt, lemon drops, some hazelnut, popcorn, hint of oak, cereals, sweet grasses

Solid standard, beautiful grain character, not too lax, fits for 32 €.
    • Nose
first impression already when pouring: beautiful, intensive cereal whisky, the grain then dominates in the glass, fresh hay, then a hint of fruity freshness, more apple than lemon ... later some sweetness (toffee, honey), but the grainy character remains
    • Taste
mild, malty, caramel, nut ... if it stays longer in the mouth, it will be a bit "crisper", crispbread (with nutella), a touch of dry wood and pepper
    • Finish
medium, there is still some crispbread, malt, nut ... and slight bitterness

    • Nose
Fresh and clean. Green apples, honey and a huge amount of malt. A fine
note of toffee is coming through, mixed with flowers and a gentle
spiciness. A bit of sweetness with sugar, sherry and vanilla. The nose

    • Nose
Sweet, ripe apples, pear, syrup and honey. Behind it floral accents, strong citrus notes. A touch of sherry and oak.
    • Taste
Honey, apple and malt, oak and orange zest. Caramel and vanilla.
    • Finish
Medium. Oak and caramel in the interplay.

Nose - Honey, toffee, sweet, cooking apple, pear, fresh meadow, sugar, wood, vanilla, pine apple and flowers.

Taste - Apple, oak, sugar cane, spice, fresh and powerful.

Finish - medium long with oak.

At 40% abv it feels stronger on the taste, good medium development.

If you leave it for over 10 minutes, the nose becomes much sweeter.

    Made note from a miniature.
    • Nose
Orange, caramel, citrus, hazelnut. An oily fruitiness which I find hard to describe: lychee perhaps, or overripe gold kiwi? A little malt.
    • Taste
Orange, almond, caramel and green apple. Again that oily fruitiness. Quite some spice, a whiff of smoke and again a little malt.
    • Finish
More smoke now. Toffee, barley and hazelnut. Some oaky spice in the end. Not much fruit left.

    • Taste
Fudge, woody, light walnut notes. Becomes woodier with a touch of water. Some fruits (apples?)
    • Finish
      A sweetening fruit finish

    Nose: sweet, caramel, malt, freshness

Taste: mild and sweet, malt in the foreground, later vanilla (?)

Finish: medium sweetish (not as strong sweetness as in the nose) finish, later quite dry

Comments: Very light and compact single malt, which convinces with its mild finish and its many facets (from sweetness in the nose to dryness on the finish). In the price / performance ratio a highly recommended whisky for the everyday Dram. Clear recommendation for this price

The malt is present throughout this Scotch. What is perceived in the nose, extends to the finish evenly and round.
    • Nose
clearly malty, sweetish, green juicy apple with a hint of vanilla and a hint of caramel, at the end you can guess something sherry
    • Taste
soft, sweetish and the malt is clearly to taste, a little nutty
    • Finish
Here, too, the sweet maltiness, which lingers in the mouth for a long time, dominates and then becomes a little drier

    • Taste

    • Finish
medium length, bitter and a little dry
