Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1995 HB

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.73 points

  1. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

You can not blame this whisky for not getting a barrel for the 11 years. The nose I think is great, in the mouth and at first beats the harsh oak cargo and pushes more flavors but rather in the background. A rather difficult whisky.
    • Nose
Waxy, fruity, orange peel, herbaceous, oak, slightly dusty. Over time a little more fruity, fresher, without looking young.
    • Taste
Powerful, tingling, with a lot of oak and bitterness, slightly salty, orange peel.
    • Finish
dry, tart oak, some wax here too, otherwise a lot of oak.

  2. NamorX68 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
fruity, fresh, candle wax, malt, oak, some vanilla and caramel. Bright fruits .. Apple something citrus. After a while he becomes floral ... flowery.
    • Taste
wow powerful start, oak, slight bitterness, malt, nutty, maritime with some salt.
    • Finish
      medium, dry, coffee

  3. malthead-sven scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Has rough edges, unusual but interesting, 12-16 years, 52-56%, Highlands
    • Nose
Honey, fresh, waxy, cloudy apple juice, then clearly candle wax, a little alcohol, floral with some heather, earthy
    • Taste
strong onset, very tingling in the mouth, peppermint and oranges
    • Finish
at first restrained, slightly maritime, with tender-bitter chocolate, a bit musty at the back

  4. Noface83 scored this whisky 86 points Specialist

Nose: fruity (sour and fresh), floral, lighter slightly waxy whisky, a hint of nut and caramel and vanilla, malty and subtle oak also play with. Very round and smooth
Taste: what a strong and peppery onset, the tingles in the mouth, a lot of oak and bitter notes, only when swallowing is again some malt sweetness and fruits, otherwise dominate bitter almonds, roasted aromas and dark chocolate, the oak is fierce

Conclusion: heavy part. At the same time round and impetuous. I like it !

    Notes from a blind tasting.

For me this is a better version of the 14yo original bottling.
Typical waxy Clynelish character and absolute enjoyable without water at 52,5%.
