    • Nose
Cardboard, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, some wild berry jam, behind them some moss and earth
    • Taste
A few blueberries, strawberry jam, cardboard and lots of it, a few herbs, really unpleasantly bitter, pepper

    - a delicious NAS Highland single malt
    - nice soft fruity aroma
    - not quite as good as the 12 year old but in the PLV at approx. 50 € for 1L and the quality shown purely rationally the better choice
    • Nose
lots of fruit, more port than sherry, caramel and nuts, voluminous aroma, dark fruits
    • Taste
mildly soft start, fruity port taste, orange, again caramel, raisins, dark fruits, dark chocolate, intense aroma
    • Finish
      soft, mild finish;
medium-long, beautiful aromatic aftertaste with lots of sherry and fruit

The “brave” first matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then moved to 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso Butts and finally received a finish in Douro Port Pipes. Certainly a drinkable and in principle also delicious malt, but not a real star. On the positive side, however, it should be noted that I have never given the Valor to anyone - whether whisky enthusiast or newcomer - who did not like it at all.

After pouring, the amber and cognac color beckons to the first nose. Then comes the first surprise - sherry sweetness is initially absent, green apples and a light citrus dash like lemongrass, but overall quite thin. So first cover it and let it breathe a bit afterwards. Aha, now comes the typical sherry note, some port appeal and also clear caramel and a hint of vanilla. But it doesn't come across as really dominant, only when the nose almost touches the edge of the glass are raisins and dried plums added, the apple remains in the background. Raisins, vanilla / caramel and apple - does that make apple strudel? Not really, everything remains too easy for that.
    • Taste
      76 76
A little disappointing. Slight sweetness, slight sharpness - certainly balanced, but maybe too much of it. Nooks and crannies, dominant taste experiences are unfortunately missing. A little bit of wood, also sherry, a bit paradoxical sweet bitterness when circling in the mouth like traditional marzipan with a high proportion of almonds. Sniffing in between: oh - now there is only caramel sweetness!
    • Finish
      72 72
Another sip and a short finish reminds me of tree bark.

    • Taste

    I miss something. Stronger?
    • Nose
Nutty and fruity with all kind of sweetness like Almonds, dried fruit, vanilla, marzipan.
    • Taste
Easy not much of a body, oranges, raisins, plum and figs, vanilla again. Less body. Hints of burned dark sugar?
    • Finish
A liittle bit weak: not much power, middle long. Short aftertaste. A pity this one .

Whiskyfun: Dalmore ‘Valour’ (40%, OB, Fortuna Meritas Collection, +/-2016)
We’ve tried a ‘Valour’ back in early 2013, not too sure it was the
same. This one was finished in American oak, oloroso, and Port. Not
successively, I imagine. Colour: deep gold. Nose: a much lighter, and
rougher version of the 15. Styles aren’t dissimilar, but this feels like
having lumpfish eggs after caviar. Cardboard, English chocolate, and
bitter caramel. Mouth: this is better, a little more vibrant and rather
citrusy – those Dalmore-y oranges again – with a jammy background.
Guignolet, sweet bread, green tea… Then bitter chocolate and prunes.
This one is for your breakfast. Finish: medium, rather dry, and rather
better. Pleasant malty aftertaste, with a Christmassy side. Comments:
the 15 nearly killed it on the nose, but it was a tie on the palate. SGP:351 - 79 points.

As part of preparations for the festival masterclass, we received Nethare's post every seven samples of 100 ml each, which we also blindly tasted to be in the same skin as later participants of our guided tasting. We split the samples to thirds. We first tasted the first and wrote notes. In the second round, we made a tasting "videoconference" together with Nethar via Skype.
We then sent the processed results to Peter by e-mail, and then the identity of all seven samples was declassified. The selection was then reduced to five samples, so we discarded two old whiskys (Old Pulteney Noss Head and Glenlivet The Master Distillers Reserve) and we chose to make a selection from our point of view and we welcomed two whiskys (Glenfarclas 105 and Laphroaig QA cask), around which a bit of contradictory reaction was in the forum, which is suitable for the blind test because it could blindly "filter out" any prejudices. So I put my scraps of tastings down. Everyone was at least 4 times, three times at home, and fourth at masterclass.
    • Nose
Smell a lot of nuts, it comes to me quite blended, but in a heavier, pleasantly full style. Some sharpness of alcohol, heavily fruity, varnished. (82 b)
    • Taste
The taste is blended again. The taste is even more noticeable, in the smell it was on the way between blend and single malt. The flavor is blended, but it's older (I'd guess at least a twelve-year mix or something older, like when you get some blends in the auction from the 1970's to the eighties). I like the smell more, but overall, this whisky is fine. In taste the fineness, nuts, wood, some varnish and old wood. In the "old woody" flavor. (81 b)
    • Finish
My tip is a White Horse, probably an older one, I know that Peter takes them and loves them.

    • Nose
Crumbly shortbread drizzled with toffee and dotted with plump raisins. Deeper notes of candied orange peels.
    • Taste
Chocolatey and rich, with treacle and malt loaf. Despite all this decadence, it still shows off some lightly qualities with golden barley and a touch of nutmeg.
    • Finish
Long and warm - plenty of orange aromas and cinnamon.

A travel retail release of Dalmore single malt Scotch whisky, which is matured in a mix of two types of first fill ex-bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry butts, then finished in port pipes from the Douro region in Portugal.

Fruity and sweet on the nose, strong and tart in the mouth. Very interesting.
    • Nose
Hmm: sweet port. Blood orange, apricot. Sweet summer fruits, floral with honey. Milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla and a little oak in the background. Overall very wine-laden with cloves and spices, almost Christmas.
    • Taste
Forest clearing. Pine cones and moist soil. Sherry and dark chocolate. Eichenwuerze, caramel and port again, this time less sweet.
    • Finish
long with lots of bitter chocolate, coffee and some butterscotch.

Nose, taste and finish are quite consistent with almonds / marzipan, oranges, raisins, plums and figs. It`s got less body than most other recent Dalmore expressions. Whereas its siblings tend to be very sweet, this one contains more bitter notes. Its mouth feel is a bit corrosive, probably because it`s a rather young spirit. Longer maturation and a higher ABV could have benefited this one. Not bad, but the 15 YO or the Gran Reserva are better choices in this price class.
