    A solid and pleasant Auchentoshan.
    • Nose
Fruity and herbaceous. Yellow and white pelle-melle fruits, on a vegetal background. A little lemon too. The water reveals the vanilla creme brulee characteristic of Auchentoshan (at least for the Ex-Bourbon barrels) Neither ultra expressive, this nose is nice and clean, without being too far from the profile of the distillery.
    • Taste
Attack on the palate quite weak and alcoholic. Then full of citrus! Lemon, especially grapefruit, and even blood orange. In my opinion the water does not reveal much else except a slight bitterness at the end of the mouth. As often, I prefer without.
    • Finish
Always on the citrus, the herbaceous side also comes back.

  2. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A good example of a fruity, creamy and herbal bottling. It's certainly very enjoyable, yet not the most complex whisky in the world.
    • Nose
Perfumed, floral and fruity. Tropical fruits (pineapple, lychee), heather, green tea, honey, vanilla, polished wood.
    • Taste
Full and initially sweet: like Greek style yoghurt (with honey) with cereals and tropical fruit salad. Some varnish and later on drying on coriander, ginger and white pepper.
    • Finish
Quite short, with ginger kicking in, along with the tropical fruit salad.

    Auchentoshan 21y 1991/2013, 52.3%, Malts of Scotland, bourbon barrel # MoS13016, 165 bottles
Okay, that starts here more than properly. Floral and sweet. Heather, dried flowers, mown grass ... mixed with honey and vanilla. Warm croissants. A fruitiness that starts subtly but is more prominent after some time. Especially citrus. Mandarin and lime. Hard lemon sweets. Also some apples and melon. Licorice and gingerbread. No matter what oak, what gives the nose depth without drying it out. This pattern is extended to the taste. Floral elements (that heather is really great), supporting oak (and also a bit of resin here), honey, herbs (ginger, nutmeg and licorice), and fruit. The fruit is less shy than on the nose and is more likely to be known as tropical or citrus. Melon, pineapple, lychee. The mouthfeel is firm, mouth filling and warming. Not too long aftertaste, spicy and slightly drying. The oak is growing. I spoke of a pleasant surprise from time to time. Well, this is one of them. More than pleasant. I am especially tempted by the taste. 87/100 http://onversneden.com/2013/05/15/auchentoshan-21y-1991-malts-of-scotland/

Too vegetal for my taste, it also lacks breadth and fruit more expressive. Tasted blind.
    • Nose
Buttered, vegetal (sorrel), floral. White fruits. Rather light, quite young.
    • Taste
Smoky attack (Haribo Polka). Discreet exotic fruits that come and go. Becomes quickly dry.
    • Finish
Long on a slight bitterness. Fresh.

This is a very nice, tropical Auchenttoshan from Malts
of Scotland. It will cost you around 100 EUR.
    • Nose
The nose is very aromatic and fruity. It is even
somewhat tropical. Melon, mirabells and mostly strawberry and white currant.
Fresh wood shavings. A lot of oak that translates into white pepper, coriander
and ginger. In the background the floral element emerges, without becoming too
      much. Very entertaining nose.
    • Taste
It is wonderfully creamy on the palate and offers some
more vanilla, caramel and a splash of honey next to the tropical fruits. The
floral element from the nose becomes louder, but at no time does it become
perfumy, which I had with that older bottling.
    • Finish
The finish is very fruity and spicy, but unfortunately
      rather short.
