    • Nose
Candied orange, yellow raisin, pineapple, peach, galia melon, honey, papaya, mint leaves, coconut and a buttery bonbon filling. Water releases clay.
    • Taste
Dried apricot, butter candy, coconut, honey and leather. With water also mango.
    • Finish
Raisin, cocoa, caramel, coconut, apple, chocolate and mango.

Lovely Macduff. The nose was quite ordinary, but the palate and finish are very nice. A bit old school, even, but that might be my imagination.
    • Nose
When I sniff it at first, I am not even reminded of whisky, but of a dessert wine. Very sweet on honey, oranges, vanilla, marzipan and lemon tart. Some cherry candy sweetness emerges. But still mouthwatering (literally), which is a good sign.
    • Taste
Despite the high ABV, it rolls smoothly across the tongue without burning. The sweetness of the nose returns, but is heavily supported by a grand spiciness. It has some bitterness as if from grapefruit, bringing balance to the whole. From the second sip on, it even turns a bit exotic with pineapple and vanilla.
    • Finish
The finish is long, warm and sweet.

Score down to 91 from 93 but this particular bottle is one of my all time star buys if you compare quality/price ratio.

I got it for a bargain price but this certainly got my attention where Macduff is concerned

Very nice nose on honey, vanilla and hints of exotic fruits, clearly old-style whisky.  Needs some water to open up in the nose.

Big arrival on the palate, sweet and again vanilla-driven. Nicely balanced and rounded.  The finish is long and spicy (peppery) with some wooden notes that provide a sound structure to all the other aromas.  You can drink it neat, but I like it better with some water added.  All in all a very nice dram to drink...

PS:  Always remember to warm your glass and dram to body temperature before tasting to enjoy the full flavour and aromas profile.  This is more important than the shape of your glass (nevertheless the right glass will help, too).

    sample.

the nose wasn't all that impressive but the palate and finish more than made up for it.
    • Nose
woody, honey, kinda glue-ish, perfumy floral. with water: a little citric and more honey notes.
    • Taste
oh this tastes older than its 17 years. big notes of vanilla fudge and creme brulee, in a very smooth,  harmonic way that you would get from older Bourbon matured Whiskies. gets then very sugary sweet in the development.
    • Finish
damn long. intensely herbal, vanilla follows. some green apple in the aftertaste.

    WITH WATER

The nose is even more honeyed now with orange, vanilla and honeycomb. The palate has a little more bitterness but is still honeyed and spicy but is dryer. Finish is still long.

A really good whisky,  well worth trying.
    • Nose
Nicely honeyed, a little orange, floral, soft light sponge cake, a little marzipan. After a while I also get bubble gum.
    • Taste
Powerful, spicy and slightly sweet which counter balances bitterness on the back of the palate. Taste wise I get hot buttered toast, a little sherbet fizz, custard, chocolate praline truffles and very slight pineapple.
    • Finish
      Long warming and slightly sweet.
