    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
Very mild onset and surprisingly lightly alcoholic, although the malt has an "only" 40% alcohol content. Even after 15 minutes, the minimal stinging in the nose has not completely disappeared. Very gentle citrus notes, vanilla, green apples, ripe pears and subtle hints of orange crystallize with plenty of effort gradually out. In the background, a musty cellar note is at work. A touch of oak and nuts can not save the one-dimensional, very flavourful nose (in terms of complexity & intensity) and slightly boring nose.
    • Taste
The feeble onset is hardly able to transport the mild aromas. The sweet, bright fruits are tasteless almost imperceptible. Nuts, malt and spicy oak notes dominate with a pronounced bitterness. Sweet is the Macallan, but nothing more.
    • Finish
Short, mild and powerless. The bright fruits flash in the short term with a subtle residual sweetness, before the oak and subtle spices with plenty of bitterness to pick up speed.

    Blind sample.

My guess was Dalmore 12/15. It tastes like what I imagine e150 tastes like. Synthetic oranges, synthetic chocolate, borderline cloying. If fake news was a whisky. Seriously screw this crap. I’ll never buy a Macallan and while I’m not their target audience, you bet I’d never recommend them either. It’s a malt for yesterday.

Edit: I should also add that while this was a blind sample, a few of the next blinds were glendronach 15 and 18. Both of which were ass over teakettle better than the Macallan Amber.

[June, 2015]  I donated this bottle to a party.  I bought it for 60 Euro in March, 2015.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 80.  My notes state an immature, unbalanced and slightly bitter (tannins) profile that has absolutely nothing in common with the old Macallan style we all adore.  Since Macallan pushes for maximum production output the quality of this whisky went down south at a frightening speed.  But obviously they manage to attract more newbies to their brand as they loose old customers...This definitely is the last bottle of modern Macallan I bought!

[April, 2016]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 75.  I
took no detailed notes as this whisky did not interest me at all.  This is not "The Macallan" anymore, this is just another boring mass product...

Bad he is not, is delicious, but the price is not. For the same price or less, there is much better. As with all branded items, you get something quite solid, but you pay just a surcharge for the name.
    • Nose
Very light, you have to keep the trunk pretty deep in the glass. Lime, granary and a few raisins. Alcohol, quite clear, but thanks to the 40% not uncomfortable.
    • Taste
Honey, malt, strong alcohol. There is not much to involve him. The flavors are too soft for that.
    • Finish
A little honey and chocolate raisins, and then he's already gone.

    Well, not fish, not meat.
    A Macallan? For sure.
A successor to the 12 SO? Certainly not.
A pleasant aperitif and quite tasty, but respect; the name is included in the price.
    • Nose
Preserved strawberries, sherry sweets and Christmas cookies. Vanilla in the background. Associations of citrus fruit.
    • Taste
Brown sugar, some ginger and lemon, subtle apples and cut grass.
    • Finish
Dark chocolate, a little red berries and oak.

    - a decent, pleasant single malt with a
    nice sherry taste
    - despite NAS better than some single malts with 12 or
15 years, BUT for a Macallan AND the price
but very one-dimensional, too little depth and
    way too expensive
    - Too expensive even for originally around 50 €, current one
Collector prices over 100 € are all moon prices
    • Nose
clear citrus fruits, sherry, vanilla, oak
    • Taste
mild, pleasant start, looks round and balanced, light sherry (rather dry), fruity (orange), mild
    • Finish
      medium-long, fruity finish
      medium-long sherry aftertaste

Good starter to get into the Scotch world. Smooth and slightly fruity, very easily enjoyable for a medium price.
