Dark somewhat musty sherry overlays everything. Below you can find the Bowmore Islay sheet music. For a higher rating, a bit too much of a good thing in the nose. In the finish, however, I find delicious chocolate and mocha notes.

In the ABGANG long with Bowmore Island character that is not overlaid by sherry and is very harmoniously filled with salt, light medicinal notes, chocolate, spicy cinnamon and campfire smoke.

This bowmore cannot leave you indifferent. You either fall in love with it from the first sip, or immediately reject it. Many people do not like the smell of perfume, which is called soapy and foreign. I fell in love with him. Fell in love with delicate, weightless peat, with the elusive aroma of violets and lilacs, with the smell of a fire and the taste ... the taste of islay.
    • Nose
Multifaceted, difficult, interesting; first, as expected, smoke; followed by smoked bacon, iodine algae, salty sea breeze; further - more: a variety of tropical fruits, citrus notes; and, of course, floral and perfume tones of powder, violet, lilac.
    • Taste
A real fireworks display of smoky-spicy-salty-sweet tastes; the first violin is played by prunes and currants; oak and nut tones are clearly audible; sophisticated perfume motives; sea salt and a little leather; lime and lemon zest.
    • Finish
Long, very pleasant aftertaste; gentle smoke; unobtrusive iodine; the viscosity of oak; continuation of the perfumery theme; fruits go away, giving way to chocolate-almond tones and sweet-spicy cinnamon; and again a wave of smoke and sea salt

    • Taste

strong violet color, very soft, well integrated sweetness and smoke, tingling oak flavor on the tongue, pleasing wood note
    • Finish

Smoke and violets remain, in the background very light tannins, unfortunately quite a bit

beautiful complex and soft Bowmore that has reduced its smoke to a minimum. Here, the maturity helps to compensate for the low alcohol strength
    • Nose
sweet and spicy, light cinnamon, French rolls, tangerines, very mild, set smoke, wild garlic leaves, haribo raspberries from the Colorado mix, very complex
    • Taste

While the smell was quite promising, the rest was rather disappointing for me. Pity!
    • Nose
Typical mature Bowmore with a complex attack of mild peat smoke, ferns, hints of lavender and old roses and tropical fruits. Gradually salt, oak, rosehip tea, red hibiscus flowers, earth and nuts follow.
    • Taste
Surprisingly easy start with ashen peat smoke, bitter oak, ferns, dextrose and sherry. Acts rather unbalanced, with the time flowery powder, salt and violet root follow.
    • Finish
Long, grape sugar, gentle peat smoke and again flowery accents of old roses and lilacs. Then also powder and forest soil.

Sophisticated Bowmore. Nice sherry / bourbon ratio. I miss the higher ABV, even though it wasn't too light in 43%.
    • Nose
Sherry and vanilla. Sweet fruits, herbals, camphor, cocoa and oak. Seaweed and earth. Discrete smoke and peat.
    • Taste
Refined, creamy. Sweet fruits, vanilla, salted minerals, matured oak, cocoa and wood smoke.
    • Finish
      Long, spicy, fruity.

A very nice Bowmore. The nose is due to its peculiarity with many tropical fruits, which one does not expect at first, the best part. In the taste he flattens unfortunately something off.
    • Nose
a dinghy full of lemons, intense violets, heather, peach, apricot, apricot cake with butter crumble, chocolate, passion fruit juice, apple, fresh cracked branches / spring shoots, barely smoke, papaya, melon, essential oils, rape field, limes, maritime salinity, rhababer, smoke becomes more obvious, more tart nuts, walnuts, campfire, wet sand
    • Taste
very soft onset, violet, lovely, well noticeable oak, chocolate, again passion fruit and rhababer, honey, here clearer sherry notes, apricot, some smoke, salty algae, old dry walnuts, Bowmore typical, papaya, lime
    • Finish
Oak and tropical fruits, warming, herbs, chocolate, distinct nuts, oily, green banana, the smoke becomes stronger towards the end, mineral chalky, long finish

N- Deep scents of rubber and laundry shops, consistently starchy with arising heat that steer the aroma to dirty (but addictive) marine notes of fish market, shells and weeds. Sun and Sea. Curious white fruits and white oak at the back.

P- Whiff of prune sweet and walnut with dominant salines notes, did they dilute it with sea water instead of spring when bottling? As well the funny taste of white oak lingers.  Some off the chart 'white' notes that I don't quite get it.

F- Medium, peppery, herbs, thirst by the hefty salts component.

The scent is simply super! Mass of dried fruits, peat notes, old rubber, light smoked, autumn leaves. Class! And here is the taste more calm. Same dried fruits, peat notes in the background, candied fruit, bacon buns. Hot! Balance is more to the side of the scent, but an extremely powerful 25 year old. Only imaginable if it had not been reduced to commercial strength by 43%. It would be a taste of taste. 91/100.

Very complex and complex, I really like it. A highlight is the oily and absolutely silky mouthfeel. One does not think that one has here a liquor on the tongue, so ripe is the Malt. At the same time it offers a large variety of beautiful aromas, the dry finish brings an additional gain in complexity. Of soap or lavender, as you would expect in many a younger bottling, I find nothing here. Just beautiful - if he had something more presence in the mouth (higher alcohol content!) That would be a dream whisky.
    • Nose
Tender smoke, which seems to disappear after a few moments behind the other flavors. Cherries, red apples and some dried fruits. Very ripe and complex on the one hand, on the other hand, there are also fresh limes and grassy notes. Everything is framed by mineral notes reminiscent of chalk or limestone and a clear maritime sea breeze.
    • Taste
Extremely pleasant in the mouth. A wonderful oiliness spreads, as I know them only from old whiskys. At the beginning. a bit dry with walnuts and soft smoke. Then it gets sweet, the sherry brings dried plums, raisins and many nuts. Dark chocolate and espresso set the counterpoint. After 25 years in the oak I expect that too. One could say that with 43.0% ABV he lacks the strength.
    • Finish
Medium-long and spicy-dry, the Bowmore sounds. The sweet fruits and the sherry remain present, but move into the background. The smoke is more noticeable here, but remains elegant and restrained. Again walnuts, leather, tobacco and some almonds.

  41. mds51 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

A clear disappointment. I would have expected much more for 25 years. The 43% hurt the whisky too, it comes watery therefore. And then that he is dyed after 25 years still, puts the crown on.
    • Nose
Red fruits, oak, rhubarb, nuts, minimal smoke, sea air
    • Taste
Slightly soapy, slightly watery, light smoky aromas, nut aromas (walnut, hazelnut), dark chocolate, light bitterness, some lime zest.
    • Finish
The soapiness remains, light spice on the palate. Pretty short finish.

  42. Sievi scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

A beautiful complex whisky, which, however, promises a little more from the nose than it can hold in terms of taste. It is a shame that Bowmore did not do without the coloring.

Nose: Lots of sherry and fruit tones, toffee and a hint of nuts, complex aromas of roasted wood and smoke, some leather and hints of herbs and salt.

Taste: Not stormy but rather reserved, but with a variety of flavors that are dominated by sherry and dried fruits, paired with a subtle peat smoke. In addition, various notes compete in the background, with nuances of lemon and pineapple, toffee and hazelnut, wood, leather, grassy spices and salt.

Finish: With the medium-long finish, the smoke tones come to the fore, next to them are sherry and fruit notes, followed again by a potpourri of light spicy, wood, leather and nut notes that result in a nice complexity.

Complex, full-bodied, long finish. Something for the better from Scotland. Very good maturity, stands out clearly from younger Bowmore's. Absolutely worth the price, a class whisky. On Neudeutsch: Vil well, but nothing your price cash (probably), if have fumf children, hungry mouth must stuff like bird in nest, screams for kebab or megdonalds, nothing coal for wiski gutt boumor, other persona, you drink cheap model. "... Characteristics: Color: Mahagony Aroma: Sherry, very, very maritime and lemony, some wild and wet hay and of course peat smoke Very ripe oranges, steamed fruits, wet animal skin, a bit meager, oysters and hints of vanilla fudge, iodine A wonderful freshness, at the age of 25. A top class nose Taste: Oily, syrupy, peppery and candied sugar without end Toffee, hazelnut, enamel bitter almonds, fairly nutmeg, apricot juice, tangerine liqueur Floral notes, slightly geraniums in the background Oh no, not again! No, really, this typical Bowmore florality remains in the frame and does not bother in any way - apparently large bowmores were distilled in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and in the end just a pleasure neither powerful nor very long, but wonderfully citrusy and lively, something like icing sugar and lemon and even a little tingling. A very, very good new Bowmore. Expansion: Bourbon and Sherry Casks Special feature: dyed. Well, but what kind of paints. He lets forget the lavender crisis, or lies long before her and shows what a Bowmore can be. Hopefully, the lavender will not survive casks so as not to affect Bowmore in another 25 years.
