Whisky Reviews for Cooley 1999 TWM

How great can a young Irish whiskey be? And how fooled can you be if you would taste this blind? This one was blind and my thougths went to old highlanders.
    • Nose
Deep and complex nose. The fruity nose starts with nectarines, apple and fresh pineapple. Quickly the other stuff and hints towards the mentioned highland features like a soft smoky side and waxy feeling.
    • Taste
Very drinkable and nice. Citrus fruit combines with a touch of woodsmoke and malty sweetness like cake, vanilla and caramel. Also very creamy and waxy. Mandarines and lychee with some liquorice
    • Finish
Nice warm basket of fruit, malt and just a hint of peat.

Nose: Smoke and sweet fruits combined with farmy notes. Apple pie, pineapple from a can, vanilla and caramel. Very accessible, very inviting. The smoke blends in nicely.

Body: Light-medium weight on the tongue, rolls down ever so smoothly.

Taste: The pineapple and apple-pie come first, then citrus starts to wave them goodbye. Lemon which is accompanied with a nice touch of smokiness. Peppers set in, together with some bitterness. Very tasty indeed.

Finish: Long peppery finish, ending bittersweet. The smoke is very subtle.

Verdict: Another great bottling by TWM.

A great Irish whiskey. Clearly a twin to the Cooley 1999 that was
released last summer by Thosop, but a little more fruity and accessible. Around
    80 EUR.
    • Nose
The aromatic and fruity nose is immediately marked by peat and stable
scents. So this is clearly an independent bottling of wat Cooley markets as
Connemara (while those releases are much peatier). Very waxy. Quite some hay. Lemongrass.
Pretty sweet, too. Pineapple, melon, strawberry, tangerine. Marshmallows.
      Ginger, vanilla and caramel.
    • Taste
It is creamy, smoky and very spicy on the palate. Sturdy peppers, ginger
and salt. Licquorice that takes care of a bittersweet lining. Perfectly
balanced by the fruit, in which citrus takes the lead.
    • Finish
The finish is long and spicy. It tingles a long while on the tongue
      before dying a bittersweet death.
