Sulfur-sensitive people should keep their hands off this vintage from Loch Gorm. Although it is not excessive, it is already so pronounced that it can be perceived as dominating. If you accept hung sulfur as a characteristic of a whisky, you can't go wrong with it.
    • Nose
      84 84
The Oloroso sherry barrels are clearly noticeable: raisins, dried dates and figs, nougat, marzipan and - a not to be despised note of sulfur that brings musty and musty barrel notes to the nose. Only weak peat smoke, it cannot really prevail against the sulfur note.
    • Taste
      84 84
Also on the tongue clearly sherry-accentuated: raisins, fermented grapes, nougat, marzipan and clove powder. Here, too, the sulfur, which is a little milder now that the nose has already got used to it.
    • Finish
      83 83
Short and concise, smoky, grape-sweet, a bit like dried herbs.

I had it as a blind sample so only quick notes but I quite liked it.
    • Nose
Smoke and campfire, leather with grapefruit and a reminder of Danish smoking rooms.
    • Taste
      Nice sweet smoke
    • Finish
Dry and astringent, oaky and mild.

very smoky whisky, the other flavors are neglected. But you can drink in between.
    • Nose
      85 85
Clearly medicinal smoke, iodine. Getting sweet, vanilla, malt and ash. A trace of rubber
    • Taste
      83 83
distinct smoke, some sherry, ash. Becomes slightly bitter. Alcohol involved quite well
    • Finish
      84 84
quite long with smoke, vanilla, oak and ash

  7. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Clear, dirty, sweet sherry, a little gruff peat smoke. Interesting dram, but a little missing.

Bacon and salt, fresh fruit and cherry brandy. Cereals. Allies gluttony and maritime side. Very young and fresh. Very fine, too. Salt supported in the final but without sacrificing balance.
    Enthusiasm 4/5

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:Kilchoman ‘Loch Gorm 2013’ (46%, OB, 2013)  I believe it was a 2007. Colour: gold. Nose: its softer, leafier, more polished, and in a way, more ‘Caol Ila’. Fresh walnuts and apple peelings. Perhaps a little more engine oil as well? Mouth: excellent as well, but perhaps a little more mono-dimensional than the 2015. A little more towards sappy and soapy tones, putty, plasticine… But very excellent it remains. Finish: long, lemony, salty, always with a little putty. Or putty-like flavours. Comments: you got it, I liked the 2015 edition rather better. But the 2013 was lovely too. Great work in the Rhinns of Islay! John MacLellan is a magician. More proof that you can be ultra-competent while being the sweetest and the humblest person on earth. Gives you faith in Scotch again! SGP:457 - 87 points.

    Tasted in April 2015.
    • Nose
Fresh and Fruity with smell of rubber followed by discrete peat, mint, pepper, cloves and antiseptic notes.
    • Taste
Sweet peat,  wood smoke, nutmeg, cinnamon, tobacco leaves, sherry, cloves, chocolate and raisins.
    • Finish
Long with a good balanced with lingering sweetness and smoke.

  16. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A nice malt with a lot of potential. A few years of maturation will certainly suit him well.
    • Nose
Smoke and juicy fruit, berries, moreover a freshness and some youthfulness
    • Taste
hui, clearly smoke in the entrance, for me the smoke goes in the direction of Laphroaig, then then echoes of red fruit, a little sweetness and finally the youth is then still noticeable

Nice but not really balanced, the smoke taste predominates!
    • Nose
Very smoky, not much sherry influence in the nose.
    • Taste
There is the sherry and some pepper and then... bam, peat and smoke!!
    • Finish
Quit long dominated by the smoke.

  24. I_SPEY scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Color: amber Nose: nicely peated, with some sherry hints, some mixed fruit and rather oaky!! Taste: peaty with some honey, vanilla and caramel. :-)

Finish: long, with a subtil rich, smoky finish!

  25. moviemaniac scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

The nose on this one is very promising, complex and I wouldn't hesitate giving it a 90 based on the nose. On the palate it is a tad more one-dimensional and not as complex as the nose suggested, but still very good, especially considering its age. I very much liked the finish with its lingering dry smokiness. Overall a very nice dram.
    • Nose
delicate smoke, raisins, dried apricots, pineapple, overripe pineapple, fruit salad
    • Taste
mouth watering, smoke, dark fruits, dry, herbal bitterness, younger than the nose suggested
    • Finish
long, initially sweet and growing drier, lingering, smoky

My first experience with Kilchoman. Quite a taste sensation!

It`s packed with all sorts slightly "off" flavors that somehow work in some dirty way :D

Salty, peaty, smokey, oaky, spicy, wet mold, and herbs giving it a "wow" sensation, balanced off by toffee and vanilla sweetness.

It`s an odd one, but not bad at all!

  28. mister glenfarclas scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

This distillery has got some potential...
    • Nose
Wonderful Islay peat and fruity sherry aromas. Quite much oak already, kinda surprising.
    • Taste
Spicy peat, sweet honey, creamy palate. Very nice. Some vanilla and caramel.
    • Finish
      Smooth and kinda long finish.

  29. Bishlouk scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

My first contact with Kilchoman, and I must admit to being very pleasantly surprised. It's very good, and this young whisky is easily passed for an older whisky.
    • Nose
A peaty nose with hints of cappuccino. One feels the sweet presence of the borrowed sherry. A little walnut husk. A lot of things that mix, a very complex nose.
    • Taste
Pepper, a peat quite heavy on the smoke. A little pasty on the palate. All is nevertheless quite soft and not aggressive at all.
    • Finish
Moderately long. A wave of sea salt mixed with peat moss.

  30. Ivynor scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A good product, above my taste of other Kilchoman I've been able to taste until then.
    • Nose
Lemon peat with slight influence of sherry. Woody and vanilla notes.
    • Taste
Some greenness, but closer to plants, or even green banana? (No, I'm crazy, I have to re-test) The whole is rather round, greedy, on wood, dried fruits, caramel cream danette! Come on, we'll all get up!
    • Finish
Long, with touches of bitter cocoa, vanilla. It's very sweet.

  31. tomy63 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A whisky quite simple, sweet, sweet, very easy, but well done. Very easy to drink. It's still a little young, but it's much better than previous versions I had tasted.
    • Nose
sweet and sweet (brown sugar), caramel, milk chocolate, candied oranges, some spices. All that mixed with a rather light peat, a little earthy, ashes, and a little bit of iodine.
    • Taste
very sweet, creamy, still a lot of caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, spices, and a slight smoky barbecue side. Peat is present, but it is the gourmet side of sherry that passes.
    • Finish
quite short, a little simple, slightly sweet.

  32. Edwin de Lange scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    A great Kilchoman expression!

  33. Igor scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Layer cake, cupcakes, ganache sauce, drop cookies, fruit fudge, dried prunes, toffee, honey, nougat bar.
    • Taste
Soft, almost syrupy sweetness. Vanilla coke, cream soda, éclairs, choux pastry, truffles (chocolates), caramel, milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Biting, savoury, allspice, citrus fruit, hot zest, paprika, cinnamon, dried coriander, candied peel, cloves, peppermints.

  34. Titi94 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The first edition of Kilchoman`s ongoing sherry cask matured whisky. Richly coloured, and full of Islay smoke and sherry fruit thanks to its initial maturation of over 5 years in Oloroso sherry butts and a two month finish in Oloroso hogsheads.

    Producer`s Notes:

    Colour: Burnished golden.

Nose: Fruity and spicy with understated peat.

Palate: Deep and richly flavoured, combining sherry flavours with peat and cloves.

Finish: Well balanced with lingering sweetness and long finish.
